It is fairly obvious that the club intends sticking with Adams, in the short term, at least.

It is also fairly obvious that the club knows just how strongly fans feel about our chances of automatic promotion seemingly slipping away.

So this could well be Adams last roll of the dice, nothing short of a much improved performance will do, and I sure the away support will do their bit.

I did think twice before saying this.... but I've been pondering whether it is just best if we lose this game. Wanting us to lose isn't a position I'm too comfortable with, but I fear a win would be nothing other than a dead cat's bounce. Last season Hughton had the knack of pulling a win out of nowhere when he most needed it, buying himself "a few more games" each time.

I know that some will say a win could change our fortunes and we could go on a run, but that's what I thought would happen after we'd beat Bolton at home. Instead we got hammered by Boro and haven't won again since. If I had any confidence at all that win would lead to a reverse in fortunes I'd be crossing my fingers for a win.

I think we need to see a game or two, to see what Phelan has brought to the table. And I definitely do not want us to lose, like I say, the board is sticking by Neil, for now, and like it or not, I think we have to do the same.

Despite all the differences, everyone wants the team to win. Not looking beyond the weekend, I would be delighted for a win. And that will do for now. I'll give them another game or two before I expect to see a real change, but having said that, want us to go on an undefeated run for three or games just to restore points if not confidence.

Yes the board will give it a couple of games to see if Phelan can make a difference.

Whatever views we have on the managerial situation the players need a win for their own confidence.

Never want the team to lose.

I believe that Phelan only had one training session with the first team, last Thursday, before the Reading game. This will be the first real opportunity to see if there are any noticeable differences.

As expected, they came out with the "this is the new regime" line, trying to duck the suggestion that Phelan has been brought in as a replacement in waiting. Whether that's contingency planning, I honestly don't know.

One thing is for certain, I want us to win. To my thinking, Neil is still one bad result away from the sack and it's probably going to take a run of favourable results (5 or 6 games) for that to go away.

I'll be delighted if that happens, and i will happily hold up my hands and say "I was wrong", but I really can't see it.

As much as I don't think Adams is the man to take us forward until he cuts out so many naive glaring errors in his managerial game, I would rather he proved us all wrong and just started getting us winning games. Is Ryan Bennett due back soon?

Well Adams has seemingly survived another week. This would've been the first full week of training with Phelan, so let's hope he can have some sort of effect.

Team:

Ruddy
Martin Cuellar Turner Garrido
Redmond Howson Tettey Olsson
Hooper Lafferty

That's the team I'd play personally. We haven't seen Lafferty up front yet, and judging by his performances for Northern Ireland that is by far and away his most effective position. And as Jerome hasn't really done much in the last couple of games, I think perhaps this is the right time to give Lafferty a proper chance. With that in mind we obviously don't have anyone on the left, and as we don't really have a proper left midfielder ready to start, I personally would push Olsson up and bring in Garrido, who when given the chance earlier on in the season I didn't think did badly. I also think that Cuellar should be bought back in, as he's looked like the only convincing partner for Turner in recent weeks.

Gonna go with 1-1. We really should be beating teams in 23rd in the table, however after the last couple of weeks I doubt we will.

Whatever the result on Saturday, I doubt that it will lead to any immediate change of management, or likely change. A win or an honourable draw and a good performance will not necessarily save Adams, another defeat with a good performance probably would save him. I still think that Adams is safe until Christmas, because of the difficulty of advertising and then interviewing with applicants rather preoccupied. Unless, of course, they have sounded out Phelan in the mean time.....

Phelan could be a risk. He, too, lacks managerial experience, however good his coaching was, and however much he learned from Ferguson. It's one thing to be be adviser and coach, but it's very different when you are manager and ultimately responsible. There has to be a hardness, as Adams has experienced.

Team for Saturday?

Ruddy or Rudd

Martin, Turner, Bennett, Olsson

Redmond, Howson, O'Neill, Murphy

Hooper, Jerome

Is it too soon for Wes, Vadis?

Result?

I'm going for 1-1 or 2-1 to us - we are due some luck sometime.

Just need a win, need something to happen, let's hope that if we have to continue with the present set up let's hope the wins will start to come and the players get playing like we know they can! Every team goes through a patch of bad results in this division let's hope ours will be all over by tea time Saturday

Wigan won once in 14 games and along come .....Norwich. Only one outcome I can see!!

Seriously let's hope for a win and kick on from there but have no real confidence that will happen TBH.

I'm in Ipswich tomorrow so really looking forward to being made welcome from Binners! ( thanks Neil).

Interesting. Why not Jerome on his own up front though?

Jerome, in my opinion, has been a bit of a mixed bag. Though I accept that of Grabban too.

What I can't accept is a lack of effort. And that was Jerome against Reading. A very, very lazy performance.

Aye, fair enough, though it was difficult to pick out anyone who had a great one.

I like the 5 man midfield, we need to be a bit more streetwise.

Yeah, not many played well but you can still put a shift in. Jerome just didn't. From what I've seen this season I think Grabban plays with a little more fire in the belly and perhaps we've missed that more than we realise - even if he does sometimes lack a little finesse.

Sounds like Hoolahan, Odjidja, and Bennett aren't too far away from being back, although it's highly unlikely we'll see them this week. I imagine they'll return in the next couple of weeks though.

Playing Grabban = no goals. Playing Gary Hooper = goals. Grabban has be awful so why drop a player who has 2 goals in 2 games for one who hasn't scored or looked like scoring in the last few games? Agree with dropping Jerome who has tailed off.

Laffery is not a left sided player. He is best through the middle I would play Josh Murphy there as an inverted winger. That position ( failure to remedy it) has be a big factor in unbalancing the team

Russell Martin is better than Whittaker at RB. Garrido at LB fair enough ( but be amazed if it happens)

Would go with that midfield but Adams will play Johnson instead of O Neil.

Ruddy

Martin, Turner, Hoiveld Olssen

O Neil, Tettey

Redmond Howson,Murphy

Hooper

We will get

Ruddy

Whittaker, Martin, Turner, Olssen

Tettey Johnson, Redmond Howson

Hooper Jerome
