Not convincing at all,  but we did enough in the first half and just saw it out second half. Can't have any complaints with that.

But Wigan were very very poor.  I think most teams would've punished us second half.  But you can only beat whats in front of you! :)

Amazing that we can actually reenter the top 6 on Saturday if we beat Huddersfield and other results go our way.

To me, it felt like the polar opposite of what we've been doing most of the season. Far less shots than normal, one solitary corner and a defensive display that barely had me on the edge of my seat at all, in contrast to most weeks. We looked less creative than normal, but calmer than normal and, most importantly, got the result.

I agree. Many on here have been complaining that we are attacking too much and leave ourselves exposed at the back. Today that wasn't true. We attacked, then got the goal, then played a balanced game to preserve that lead. Good tactics for playing away from home, IMO. Wigan actually carried more attacking threat than Reading did last week, barring the lapses at the two corners. Those sort of lapses didn't happen today and that was what I was looking for in today's performance.

I was wondering about that to be honest, may turn out that he has just had a knock and missed training or something. But I wonder whether he has been playing up, weren't his mum moaning about Adams or something recently? Or had his head turned. Can't claim it is a "rest" as it isn't the first time he's been on the bench recently.
Thing is, Redmond is our most prized asset. You'd be kidding yourself to think anything else.

And yet, as you mention, he's been benched more than once in recent times.

If he's here after January I will be very, very pleased. But I'm not sure I see it...

Or maybe he was left out today purely for tactical reasons?

We've tried that before and it hasn't been great for us.

I got the feeling that Adams might be pissy with Redmond (for what I have no idea) because I just cant see how it would make sense to bring Murphy on rather than him, he is superior in every way.

Redmond is a player in a squad, just the same as any other player. Like I said, its more likely it was purely a tactical move ( and maybe designed just to give him a rest) considering how important it was that we win yesterday, and whilst Redderz is great going forward, he can leave us a bit exposed defensively.

However if he doesn't feature next week, I'll maybe consider your conspiracy theory...

Redmond was not feeling too good yesterday according to Michael Bailey. He was still in the squad on the day which seemed consistent with wanting him in there if he felt better at the last minute.

That was worth the wasted opportunity just for the laugh. Lafferty is a fantastic grafter though. Just seemed to be everywhere as soon as he came on.

Some are saying that there wasn't enough movement yesterday, but I thought Hooper and Jerome both worked their socks off and kept their CBs guessing and the same was true of Lafferty and Josh who did a great job of pinning back Wigan players with their pace and movement. The work-rate in general on a difficult pitch that was cutting up badly was also refreshing to see.

Thought the Jerome, Hooper and Howson goal was good. Hopefully a nice understanding of each others way of playing, is starting to work out
