Odjidja-Ofoe vs Brentford

I know it was only a short time he got against Brentford, but I've seen very little said about it.

I wasn't at the game so was wondering if there were any early signs of good things to come, or not enough pitch-time to tell?

Looked strong but didn't really have the chance to get into the game. I suspect a few more longer appearances as a sub may be in order to get him into the team and the Championship.

O'Neil looks decent too.

Our outstanding strength in depth for this league is beginning to show it's worth already and will do even moreso during the long, hard Championship winter.

Very true.  What's odd is that in most areas I think our team is stronger now than it was 12 months ago (or as strong where the personnel are the same) - just goes to show that it's not just about spending money.  For example up front, I'd rather we'd had our current strikeforce last year than the strikers we did have, and similarly I think we'd have done better with our current midfield/wing players than when we had Fer, Snoddy and Pilks.

I know it's early to be saying this and obviously it's easier for a player to look good against Champ opposition, but that's how I feel.

We have to take the skills levels in both leagues into account, but I'd agree that the present side managed by NA would fare much better than last year's side did. Given that we haven't seen Hooper, Howson or McGrandles yet, and have only had glimpses of O'Neil and Odjidja so far, there could be far more to come. The main difference for me is the pace and power of the present side, which makes the opposition work very hard and then takes control as they tire. The other factor is the quality and depth. Forest only has two strikers, and Antonio who can also play as a striker. A serious injury to any of those and they are in trouble. By comparison, City can play 3 strikers and still have two more in reserve and that sort of depth goes through the whole team. Hooiveld seems to be settling in well and we have 5 CBs, not counting Martin. It all seems very healthy to me.

The squad is looking top quality for this league and with the right motivation of the players would probably do better in the PL than our team did last year under Hughton. But, I don't think we have the outstanding players, goal scorers, that can make the difference at a higher level. I suspect we will have the same sort of season that we had in the Championship under Lambert, where the players are playing at the top of their game, loving their football and winning matches. That carried forward into the Prem would probably have enough momentum to keep us up for a season.
