O'Neill from QPR

I just realised, this is not the first O'Neill we have signed from QPR.

John O'Neill anyone? We bought him and John Fashanu hit him with a career ending tackle about a minute into his debut. Felt very sorry for the lad.

We had a Norwich vs Guests testimonial for him which was great fun. Linekar played, Gunn had a go up front, Fleck went in goal and nicked sweets off the old 'sweeeeeeeeeeets' man. I think he was also wearing a St Johns ambulance hat at one point.

Anyone remember anything else about this game?

My dad was at the game and I can remember him telling me the story, reckons he heard his ligaments snap from the other side of the ground (unless I'm getting muddled with another injury story). 

I'm going to pop this thread into 'former players' though if you don't mind.

No, that's the one, I've heard other people talk about hearing the snap too.

Just text my dad, weren't O'Neill - the story in fact came from my grandad and was about Sammy Chung snapping his leg in half, everybody in the ground heard it, before my dad was born!

Maybe you were confused because other people have metioned hearing O'Neill's snap too. Apparently he sued Fashanu for £150,000 but settled out of court for £70,000.

I was at the O'Neill game which was at Plough Lane and the injury was about 30 minutes into the game. It was a Friday night I think and I remember him being injured but do not recall hearing any particular sound. To rub it in John Fashanu scored the only goal of the game having earlier inflicted the injury. It was when Wimbledon were right in the middle of the Crazy Gang era.  I always remember Shaun Elliot playing for us that night too.
