Our best 11

Greetings. One of my first posts after having joined the forum today. Exiled in Doha currently and making do with TV coverage. Given a big chunk of the season is past what would you say is our best 11? Regardless of the opposition and if we were free from injuries and suspensions? Looking forward to hearing you views.

Difficult question though, the team that started Saturday is our strongest at the moment but Vrancic is really unlucky not to be starting. I still think McLean could get a spot in the team, problem is, I don’t know who I would leave out at the moment ! Steipermann is probably in the team for his physical attributes and is most likely under threat to lose his place.

Very difficult question, but I guess you wouldn't stray too far away from the starting 11 against Millwall.

The back 5 pretty much pick themselves, I can't see Pinto getting back in, and Hanley is going to have to maybe be hoping that Klose or Zimm gets injured to allow him back in. Hard to look past Pukki up top, Buendia and Hernandez are both in irresistible form. Tettey just doesn't put a foot wrong. Leitner may be one of our best passing midfielders since Crook. I think Stieperman has come on leaps and bounds, so I see him, Cantwell, and Vrancic vying for the same spot.

We have good depth in reserve with Rhodes, Tyrbul, Marshall, Godfrey and the returning Mclean, who I thought was going to be an excellent addition, but has been unlucky with injuries.

Was talking about this in the pub, post Millwall, and the beauty of just now is that you could take any player out of that team, apart from maybe Krul, and you have a very good quality replacement.

Jury out on Leitner in that question though, as Vrancic has been excelling in a more advanced position.... not really sure what we'd look like with him in Leitner's role, because it looks to me like Leitner is the best playmaker in this league!

Well he's definitely right up there, but it would be amazing if we could win promotion and then steal Bradley Dack from Blackburn.... he looks the real deal.

Hernandez at Leeds is a great player too, although at 33 is at the wrong end of his career.

The contetious point for me is Stiepermann or Vrancic in the number 10. Completely different players obviously, and I'm a big Vrancic fan, but it's impossible to ignore the fact that us climbing the league has coincided with Stiepermann's introduction to the team. Zimmermann or Hanley is a difficult one too, but based on this season it has to be Zim.

The rest of our 'best XI' picks itself, the same team from Millwall. With Vrancic/Stiepermann, Cantwell, Rhodes, Trybull, Hanley, McLean, Marshall, Pinto, Godfrey, Srbeny and Thompson in reserve. Not bad at all!

Thanks for the welcome. Can't argue with anything said on the above. I've an Aberdeen supporting guy our here in Doha who was gutted McLean left them. He said that Madison couldn't get in their side and didn't do much apart from score a sensational free kick against Rangers (who they hate) in the dying minutes of a game. Reason Madison didn't do much was he couldn't get in team for McLean. Any word on his injury?

I think McLean is running on grass, and won't be far away from a return after the international break.
