Here's my take on tonight's performance:
Rudd 6. Looked a little unsure with high balls, made one great point-blank save near the end (I think, it was down the other end and it was a bit of a scramble!).
Martin 7. Typically solid back in his regular right-back role.
Cuellar 6. Looked very slow and ponderous on occasion, but that's to be expected after so long without a game. Made one excellent tackle near the end of the first half when a foul would have been a penalty and a red card, and made a couple of excellent blocks.
McFadden 7. Did really well for a debutant. Took no risks and read the game well. Got outmuscled by McLeod a bit, but that was to be expected as he's a real handful.
Whittaker 6. A mixed bag. Was a bit careless in possession but had a stronger second half.
Josh Murphy 8. Two excellent goals and an energetic performance; still a bit naive in possession on occasion, but certainly looked like a real threat for most of the game.
Surman 6. Playing alongside Elliott Bennett in the centre wasn't ideal for either player, as neither is a natural ball winner. Gave possession away a few times but looked neat and tidy when he dropped deeper to collect the ball.
E Bennett 6. Decent shift considering he was playing out of position, but as mentioned above he wasn't helped by the absence of a natural ball-winner.
Jacob Murphy 5. Tried a couple of early flicks that didn't come off, and generally looked pretty poor I felt.
Jamar Loza 7. Didn't create a huge amount, but his tireless running and pressing when we didn't have the ball impressed me. Doubt he'll get much game time in the league, but seemed desperate to impress and really put a shift in. Should have scored at the end when he hit the post.
Cameron Jerome 7. Got the easiest goal he'll ever score presented to him on a plate. You could see from his runs off the ball that he is an intelligent striker, and put himself about a lot. When he gets fully fit I think he'll be a great addition to the squad.
Subs: Hall-Johnson 5. Didn't get much of the ball, and when he did get it he seemed reluctant to do anything positive with it. I think nerves may have got the better of him.
Becchio - only played 10 minutes or so, so unfair to give him a rating really. Didn't do a great deal, although he did have a comedy foot-race with 'The Beast' Jensen near the end which was worth the entry fee on its own
Overall there wasn't much cohesion, but that's to be expected with so many changes. I think Adams could have changed things a bit when Crawley were getting the upper hand midway through the second half; personally I'd have brought Johnson on for the last 20 to shore things up and moved Bennett out wide. It was more by luck than judgement that we held on to the lead. Even so, we're in the hat and we still have our big names fresh for Saturday. Job done.
