premier league v championship

As we sit after last night, now 5pts behind the play-off place ahead of a another must win game this afternoon, what we prefer to be challenging for the play-offs in the championship each season or be in the lower half of the premier league? If we do go up this season can we sustain a place in the premier league or will we be again be a yoyo club. I  do think we can sustain a place , we were a bit unlucky to go down last season and the games we lost were not too many were cricket scores and were competitive in most of the games. The money in the premier league is great but it does need to be spend wisely and a for a change a good cup run. 

are we all looking forward to the possibilty  of getting to the play-off final again as it is only a good day out if we win!  Which would you all prefer next season then games against QPR  and Fulham  or Tottenham or Chelsea.

I think we all want to be in the premiership, the championship is great, anyone can beat anyone, but its only great when things are going well, its a horrible league to be in when you're battling relegation or underachieving, plus having a good season in the championship ultimately gets you back to the premiership anyway, or pissed off at just missing out

Exactly, its a good league if you've got more money than 90% of the other teams in the league, a position we are only in due to parachute payments. 

Even if we went up and came straight back down, the TV money and subsequent parachute payments is enough to sort out the finances for a few years.  Also means you may be able to sign one or two players that you can bring back down with you who you wouldn't have been able to attract if in this league. 

Howson for example, he signed for a Premier League side. And Klose wouldn't have given us the time of day if there wasn't a chance of us staying in that league that season.

I enjoy the championship more than I've ever enjoyed the premier league. I hate the predictability of the premier league where it is always the same 6 or 7 teams (last year taken as an exception) who dominate and you are expected to celebrate being able to eat at the same table as these teams. Having said that, we need forays into the premier league so we can grow stronger financially, so I want us to succeed in getting there. I would love to see us compete there and I will always hope we do, but I begin premier league campaigns knowing that I will find most games boring as a city fan, facing onslaught after onslaught and hoping we can frustrate the opposition. Oh for the glory days of Lambert and Holty where we went after teams and even defeats were exciting...

The Premier league is a necessary evil for us, from a financial point of view. 

I do find it an absolute nonsense being in a league where your main aim is not to be relegated, and you will never even be in with a sniff of winning it, or probably even achieving top six.

Despite my total Pulis hatred. We bought well net spend was £28m on Phillips, Chadli and Livermore. £17.5m of that recouped maybe even £22m. Closing in on our highest finish ever. I prefer the prem

One of my flatmates is a Villa fan, and he certainly doesn't enjoy the Championship any more than the Premier League (to my amusement )

As others have said, it's a great league to be in if you're battling near the top. If you're not then it's no better than the Prem, if anything it's worse because you're not even watching your team lose to world class teams and players. As much those games were horrible at the time, I would almost go as far as to say it was a pleasure to watch an in-form Luis Suarez at his best, same with Gareth Bale. I don't think I'll ever reminisce about the time Glenn Murray destroyed us.

Too many times to count We genuinely had a 4 hour long argument a few months ago about who was a bigger club out of Villa or Spurs, he point blank refused to accept that Spurs are near the size of Villa.

But the way I see it is that staying in the Prem is a harder ask than winning the Champs. So I'll take staying in the Prem.

Exactly that for me.

Infact Suarez is the best player I have seen in the flesh - and I have been lucky enough to see some other good ones like Zlatan, Ronaldinho and Neymar. An absolute joy to watch.

I'm happy when we are winning.  Probably enjoyed league one better than most of the premier league years

 Doesn't mean I want us to stay in the championship though.  The natural result of winning, especially the big games is a place at the top table.

How about a different question?  Would you prefer to be a wigan with an fa cup or a stoke with guaranteed mid table finish each year?
