As much as I agree that mass booing of Russell Martin is just stupid, I can't help but frown at a few other lines in that article.
"Jacob Murphy: seemed to get more well wishes than stick on Twitter when he moved onto the Toon. I mention him here to make the point that fans sing 'He's one of our own', then jeer him when he shoots high and wide. That kind of behaviour helped dent his form and confidence in that difficult streak last season"
Doesn't really make any sense, because he was consistently better at Carrow Road in front of 25000 Norwich fans than he was in 1000 of his own fans at away games... booing him that time was silly, but he subsequently scored with his next chance so hardly went home and cried himself to sleep over it.
"Wes, Holt, Hucks at one end of the scale and Theoklitos at the other; everyone knows without debate they’re the greatest/worst to pull on the shirt"
Author showing that he is only recently out of puberty, because I'm a millennial and Crook, Sutton, Fox, Eadie, Bowen would all be in the mix for 'best' for me, and seeing as there are fans from 1, 2, and 3 generations older than me watching our team... no doubt a 75 year old would be throwing more names into the hat. And Velasco, Cottee and Walsh should feel fortunate that he limited his selection of the worst to just one rather than three. Walsh's debut was 100% as bad as Theo's solitary game, he was about 3 years past his best and about 4 stone overweight .
(oh, weight thing made me just remembered Hartson, and how did Redknapp and Roeder get away with not being embarrassed by Omar Koroma like Souness was with Ali Dai, managed to con Redknapp into paying £1m for him and he got 5 games here, went on to play for Dulwich Hamlet and Wealdstone, just like Dai went on to play for Gateshead!).

The article is a small rather boring piece of the writers opinion.
We choose whether to listen to / view / read any articles and whether to allow our opinions to be formed by those articles.

I think his regular inclusion has been at the heart of our failure to improve defensively.
But I don't boo or abuse him for it.
I do find the sympathy for "poor Russ" a bit lame. People talking about how he wears his heart on his sleeve and gives it his best in any position like he's a hero for it. The guy wasn't getting in the team at Peterborough. We have put him on the football map and no doubt paid him very well for it.

Its not about sympathy or even whether you he is good enough or not, despite managers still picking him.
The point is about how it has become acceptable to boo our own players, and somehow think its helping anything.

Why have succesive managers contiued to pick him I wonder? Maddison said at the players forum last night that he thought the abuse was out of order, so Russ has his fellow players fooled too!

Honestly there have been many many worse players and performances over the last few seasons, in a side that cant defend "as a team" than Russell Martin, I really dont get it and am ashamed that we have supporters who can *bleep* players the way they do, it's like a bandwagon or teenage peer pressure.

But no matter what either of us want he keeps getting picked and he is still captain.
By people that know more about football than both of us.
Truth is, for most people it is nothing more than blind lashing out, I mean we have changed every other defender, apart from Ivo who is handsome and good on social media, so it must be Russels fault.

Like you, I see with my own eyes and make my own mind up.
I was there watching that turgid game v QPR when Russ managed the only goal of the game. I've seen some games over the years, but I'm not blind to situation that's developed over passed few years with our woeful defending.
I'm of the opinion that Farke won't be selecting Martin too often this season, just by watching and listening to his press conferences.Farke's team in Germany had an excellent defensive record, it remains to be seen if the coaching team here can help our players achieve that. I'll be looking for improvement in that area specifically, hoping the players train on and improve, with or without zonal nonsense.

What it still boils down to is that our defensive frailties are not all Russ Martin's fault, and booing him because someone thinks they are is spectacularly pathetic.
