OK I will start by saying that I have been recruited to the Adams out camp.
Also that it is just one game and we were one bad bounce from a Ruddy spill or one defensive lapse of concentration from disaster. But that is just perspective, it was agame that was all about 3 points and we got them.
Now I have seen it often said that Wigan are a poor side. But are they? Look at their squad, quite a bit of premier league experience. Not many would have picked them for lying 23rd at this stage before the first game of the season. Underperforming yes, but poor well that's more questionable. In fact actually quite easy to relate to it.
It is also said that they are toothless up front, but this is a team that believes they have sufficient firepower that they can dispense with the services of our beloved Grant Holt. Who many believe would still have been an asset at Carrow Road this season.
Plus Wigan have new manager bounce. They have Malky, who pre controversy, was a popular choice to take our own helm. So a manager thought to have the Midas touch, who had the situation been reversed (and of course with no controversy baggage) we would have demanded and expected to have gathered 3 points from an out of form side. Yet Neil still came out on top.
Well it could not have been Neil could it, it must have been the Phelan effect? But the personnel chosen was remarkably similar to our last away game at Forest. OK we may have got the ball forward quicker, we may have been more resolute in defense which may have some Mike Phelan influence on it, but by and large this looks to have been a team selection that had Neil Adams' fingerprints all over it.
It is also worth remembering that most were predicting disaster when the teamsheet appeared. No wingers, no width, no attacking intent was a common cry. But how quickly we forget! If we look back to the Lambert Championship season, save for a few McNamee cameos it was a season played without wingers. Width was provided by Martin and Drury/Tierney.
It is only one game, Adams has admitted that himself - we need to back it up. But we have been quick enough to get on his back recently at every poor result, and I am no exception. So let's give credit to Neil now for producing a much needed result even if it must be tempered by it only being one game.
