I feel sorry for the bloke too, by all accounts a decent guy. Feel a bit sorry for Hull too actually because they are in for a tough season and aren't one of the three teams I'd like to see relegated.

Yeah, absolutely devastated for him. Wish him nothing but the best, he did a great job for us and then we sold him for a great fee with one year left on his contract. No reason to wish anything but the best for him.

I dislocated my patella several times as a youngster, and it really does take a long time to recover, if indeed you ever do.

Stability-wise, this is a very difficult injury to actually recover from, as many other structures are stretched to buggery when the dislocation occurs. (Which only increases the likelihood of it happening again).

Real shame, feel for the guy.

Poor bugger, same here, wish him well too.  Was looking forward to how he seemed watching Hull as a somewhat neutral.

My old man done his knee from playing, and when i was playing he was in my ear non-stop telling me it's a mugs game, we're not naturally designed to kick a ball, Don't do it, will mess me up for life.  etc.  It took him over 10 years after finishing football to start to see genuine recovery.  But even now it can play up if he steps wrong.

It was part of the reason i decided not to push myself and play week in week out.  I'm kind of sad that i didn't keep it up and push myself at the time, but when i see mates who i originally played with who can't pull their legs straight now without pain, or have to be careful stepping down into ditches, or are still waiting to have operations on their knee etc.  then i feel less sad, especially now i've got kids who like to jump on my shoulders if we walk more than 10 metres. ;)

Point i'm getting to is that this could be a devastating injury for him long term as you've implied, and is sad for any player, ex-city or not.

Exactly.

I gave up football at 17. I still feel instability on occasions if I'm rushing down stairs etc

This injury could actually end Snoddy's career.

Sure it won't end his career, he will get access to world class surgeons in the US and Germany with groundbreaking techniques etc. A cruciate ligament injury was multiple times more likely to end the career of a top level footballer 10 to 15 years ago than it is now, for example.

It's true that cruciate ligament surgery has improved over the years, however there is actually a clearly defined mechanism of injury (and pattern of injury) when an ACL goes pop.

When you dislocate your patella, it's not usually down to one factor, and therefore it is trickier to treat: did Snoddy's patella pop out due to muscle weakness/fatigue, due to laxity, perhaps due to inherent patella malalignment or even dysplasia (which is where the grooves on the back of the patella don't run exactly smoothly with the femur all the time, causing it to track wider than it should)?

It Could also have been a freak Incident where he got his studs stuck, and twisted his knee too far with his weight on his knee.

It's a far more complex injury than an ACL rupture, in my opinion.
