Afternoon everyone,
Last night was a three-generation first for us. My dad (76 years old and lifelong Canary) despite being born and bred Cumbrian, myself (lifelong Rangers fan with a soft spot for dad's team) and my 10 year old son (same as me!) attended the game at Preston and sat in the away end. My dad and I have often watched NCFC at away games over the years but it was lovely, especially as my dad had quadruple heart surgery last October, to get to a game the three of us. We had a much shorter journey at 90 miles from Cumbria than the hardy Canaries who completed the 478+ mile round trip however!
It may appear a little strange to some that my old man is a NCFC fan but my grandad came up to Cockermouth to live as a 15 year-old lad in the 1930's to work at Millers Shoe Factory up here. He was only 15 he left his family to make a new life for himself away from Acle. He was a Norwich City supporter, which explains the link we currently have.
Given the nature of the game (Wed night and Bolton (a) on Saturday) I thought the turn out in the away end was excellent and the fans backed the team, despite a tricky evening in terms of performance and result, tremendously. Daniel Farke is clearly doing a great job and shows clear appreciation of the fans. I attend many games at Ibrox, which obviously has an excellent atmosphere but it was nice to experience an away game with the Norwich fans and we all really enjoyed it.
The only very slight down side of the experience (result aside) was a 20 something year-old lad, who had clearly passed the 5-6hrs on the bus having a few cans, vomiting all over the place in the middle section of the away stand during half time! It caused us (and a few others!) to move for the second half but sadly it didn't change the team's fortunes! I'm sure my head is a lot better than his is today mind you!
I'm hoping the Canaries can bounce back on Saturday with three points, overcome Leeds, Sheff Utd etc and reclaim their rightful place in the Premier League. I'm also hoping to bring the boy down to Carrow Road one day as well.
