Doesn't really sound like that though, appears as if he is in the market for a new job.

The "indefinite leave" thing suggests that we may have had a fixed term contract with him and we're going to keep paying him his salary instead of giving him a lump sum, and then will have an argument with him about what he's owed if he gets another job during that period. So the same as 'gardening leave' basically....
