I was being tongue in cheek in case anybody didn't realise - hence the tongue smiley, of course this move was inevitable and expected, just seen some players on twitter get huge stick for not doing the gushing thank you posts before they dare mention the new club.

As somebody who doesn't even have a twitter account (just a lurker)... just expressing the idea that there is a actually universally accepted twitter etiquette for departing football players in modern society was (I thought) me having a little nod towards what this crazy world is like now. I don't take this social media thing seriously.

Josh Murphy followed the standard twitter etiquette for departing footballer... the gushing "please don't hate me" stuff, followed by a few hours for people to digest the news, and then the PR shot with his new home shirt.

To be honest I would've been disappointed had Maddison not done one, but he was always going to. As said above it's just an unwritten rule that if you have respect for the club you've just left you make that clear in a tweet. It's mainly for the fans obviously, but I still think it's a nice touch. I don't know about anyone else but I do think it's nice to read things like Maddison saying he's a canary for life.

Not surprising at all that Marley Watkins didn't do one

Telling as well that in Josh's he says "Huge thanks to all the fans who supported me". Clever little play on words there. Can't blame him though to be fair.

I'd be happy with that, forget his ipswich past he barely played for them, has a great goal scoring record although that has dried up a bit the last couple of years, my worry would be he's not much of a worker like Holt and Jerome and we don't have many creative players left now so not sure where the chances will come from as he's not going to make much himself

Yeah seen a few say he might be the Championship nous that we need, but not having seen much of him recently, I honestly don't know. And I would say he doesn't seem a "Farke" type of player, but theres no denying we need goals from somewhere, and pinning hopes on cheapies coming good isn't really enough.

Also well known to have been on some ridiculously big bucks for this level.

Decent player and would strengthen the squad but I'd pick Oliveira over him without hesitation.

Not sure how I feel about Rhodes. On one hand the stats suggest he's past his best and he has become a bit injury prone I think, but on the other hand a healthy proportion of our club legends seem to be big number 9's with limited pace. E.g. Iwan Roberts and Grant Holt, and it would be nice to have a big man up front again.

Presumably it would be a loan though with us only covering some of his wages? Because as GJP said, he's apparently on mega money for the Championship.

I am no Oliviera fan as many are aware but even in his sulky phases he actually works harder than Rhodes. And that's not a compliment.

I can't really see there being anything in the Rhodes rumours.... doesn't feel like the type of signing Webber would make when he's worked so hard to reduce the wage bill.

That said, we do really need homegrown players for the first team... striker is where we are desperately short.. and there aren't exactly a plethora of proven English strikers around waiting to be picked up, and all of them will probably be on good money.

Cardiff spent a fortune on Gary Madine who is a bit rubbish. Just a bit annoying that Ipswich got Waghorn for less than £1 million, said it about a hundred times now but we missed a trick there and business like that is one of the reasons I consider Mick McCarthy to be under appreciated.

Makes me wonder whether we should just take a punt on somebody like Brett Pitman from League One, he's actually got a decent goalscoring record in this league and played 34 times when Bournemouth won the league 3 years ago (13 goals). He's also only 30, which is about 5 years younger than I thought he was.

Or perhaps Omar Bogle from Cardiff on a season long loan? He isn't getting Premier League football next season is he.

Bit short of ideas really, and that's why goalscorers always get paid a fortune and go for stupid money. It may be that we need to sack off a couple of foreign players in other areas of the pitch and just recruit the new striker from overseas? Klose out and new homegrown centre back in? Pinto out and new homegrown right back? Wonder how much John Egan from Brentford would cost?

Its weird though isn't it, there's clearly a player in there and sometimes players just find a club which is a good fit.

Rhodes could smash it here and rediscover his confidence and form, or he could be an expensive has been like Naismith. Real tough one.

You wouldn't want to sign him on a permanent, but then you would want a bargain agreed fee in the loan deal just in case he smashes in 20 and is suddenly worth a fortune.

Everything about Rhodes just seems to go against the type of player that Webber wants. But who knows? We are now firmly in the place where we buy players who fit our system, and maybe he is the right fit?

Certainly appears to have done well at Hull, scored a lot of goals at least. Could potentially replace the Murphy goals?

Would put to bed any speculation that Farke is sacking off wingers though.

I was impressed with that other young winger at Liverpool, Ryan Kent, when he was at Barnsley the season before last. But seems to have faltered at Bristol City, and if they see Marley Watkins as an improvement then perhaps that's a big nope
