Thing is, the kind of figures being talked about would put every Champs club off except those with parachute payments and they would surely want someone who hasn't had a couple of low scoring seasons.

So on that basis I would imagine the figures are more reasonable than the rumoured £3m loan fee.


I do think Oliveira has got more going for him but it just doesn't look like it'll work here anymore.

Martin will be going out on loan too. He only wants a maximum two and half hour drive from Norwich for family reasons.

If we can get him at the right price, and Webber and Farke feel he is what we need, than thats fine by me. I don't think either of them are mugs, and theres no way they will take an uncalculated punt, because even at a reduced price, I doubt he'll be cheap. Goals win games, good strikers win you leagues.

I don't know, it doesn't excite me much as a signing as he hasn't been a prolific goalscorer since he was 25 and he's now 28. His CV at least seems to suggest that he is past his peak, but then you don't know how much of that is physical decline and how much that is down to needing to rediscover his love for football which he may do at pastures new?

One guaranteed upside is that it will initially annoy Ipswich fans, although that would only be sustained if he does well for us. Especially if they lose Waghorn this summer, as has been speculated.

Trying to look at it positively, the loan fee is heavily reduced and this is approaching a final chance for him to show he can be a good finisher. Let’s hope he takes his chance. His work rate is so poor he makes Oliveira look like Gary Holt, but if he puts the ball in the back of the net then none of us will care will we ?

And agree with it

To be honest what I would have thought we'd need is either a very fast striker who can punish teams on the break, or at very least a player who is good with his back to the goal and bringing in other players around him.

Can foresee Rhodes struggling just like Holt did in Hughton's first season to be honest.

Unless we are going to be significantly changing our style of football.

One interesting possibility that people haven't considered is that perhaps now that Hoolahan and Maddison have gone.... we simply aren't going to play a number 10 anymore, and may even go two up top?

Would be unconventional in this day and age, but its not extinct and could come back in fashion.... we've seen "tika taka" disappear or flop at the World Cup and teams now playing very direct high pressing football.

Perhaps in the absence of a top class number 10 we're going to looking to get the ball out wide a lot more rather than play through the middle? The idea being we need somebody who can get on the end of crosses?

Just speculating of course, but I'd hope that Rhodes signing would result in a new system because he'd be a disaster in the current one.

Of FFS what else, can't be more than 200yds from Waitrose. Is that 1Hr 15 mins each way or what? Mind you he's about Portaloo standard these days. Didn't realise Glasgow was that close to Norwich.....................hey ho.

We actually created a lot of chances last season that weren’t finished. The lone striker was nowhere around the penalty area. At least by having someone who is essentially a goal hanger may be what we do need

Sounds harsh but I think he should call it a day, he's done 500+ games which is good going.

I can actually remember when Daryl Sutch went from Norwich to Southend, after a couple of years of Norwich fans saying he was finished. He was only 30.... was supposed to be a coup for Southend, was a disaster there and only played 16 times, then went to non-league and packed it in by 32.

I think that is where Russell Martin is at too to be honest, both Norwich fans and Rangers fans think he's finished.... and I can't see Peterborough or Southend fans thinking any different. You still need to be physically capable of running and jumping to play in that league and half of the teams he played when failing to impress anybody in the SPL would have been League One standard (or even lower).

Perhaps can squeeze out a season in League Two or something? Not trying to be nasty, just realistic. He's had a decent career but just sounds like he's in heavy denial about being well past his peak, that TalkNorwich YouTube interview last summer was really embarrassing and so was everything he said to the media at Rangers.... kept saying he wanted to stay, when their entire fanbase couldn't wait to see the back of him.

Stuart Webber has to take some of the blame for extending his contract though, then Farke came out and called him a "legend" in pre-season, they've not helped the situation when it comes to him declining gracefully.
