DF speaking yesterday very highly of Godfrey and also Thompson, so it is like having two new signings.

We now must get the GK situation sorted, on that I am expecting a loan announcement soon from a Premier team and the same for a speedy winger.

I have been more negative over recent months than I have ever been over Norwich City the entire time I have supported them, but now I am genuinely seeing a glimmer of hope and have been relatively impressed by the way business has been done this summer.

Now I am looking forward to seeing what the outcome is........relegation fodder, mid table mediocrity or challenging for a play-off spot.......I totally exclude challenging for an automatic promotion place as that's all a bit far fetched right now.

I’d noticed ! With Godfrey and Thompson, the problem for me is how they’re getting in the team, we seem very heavy with midfielders. I’m not sure I want to see them go on loan again, it’s going to be interesting to see how Farke deals with this.

Farke is going to have to do some serious rotation this season to give all of our midfielders game time.

Bound to get an injury each out of Tettey, Trybull and Leitner this season though and about 3 games suspended for Tettey due to 10+ yellow cards

Wouldn't surprise me massively if Pinto ends up leaving and one out of Thompson and Godfrey ends up playing some games at right back this season to be honest, with Max Aarons out on loan.

ps. I wonder whether that big signing we are expecting is Marcus Maddison, still hasn't moved from Peterborough. Wildschut sacrified as he's not homegrown, replaced with an English winger. Then probably an English goalkeeper in, Matthews as the number 2 and McGovern out on loan to the SPL or something?

This would be ideal to be fair. I do wonder who we can get in as a goalkeeper though. Our two main links were to Danny Ward and Dean Henderson, but obviously both have moved to different clubs. We were linked ages ago to Freddie Woodman at Newcastle on loan, who's England under 21s first choice. That was a while ago though and haven't heard anything since. One thing's for sure we need to get someone in quickly.

That's the problem with loaning players isn't it.... they leave better players and then end up being outside of our budget. And clearly we don't get as much respect in football as we deserve for what we've done for Gunn and the way we've brought through Maddison and Lewis, because if we did then big clubs would be lining up to send us their talent.

Personally I don't think goalkeeper is a position we should be chopping and changing every year.... should have kept Rudd. It would be a disaster if we ended up with McGovern in goal at any stage this season.

Freddie Woodman at Newcastle is supposed to be decent though, if we must insist on developing some other clubs goalkeeping talent for them.

Or could buy Jed Steer now that they have been taken over and are probably going to buy a keeper. If they didn't get bought then he would have been their number 1 this season, with Mark Bunn their number 2!

Could get John Ruddy back on a season long loan now that Wolves have signed his replacement?

I mean... he's a Championship winner, most clean sheets in England, made the PFA Championship team of the year last season.... and still owns a house in Norfolk?

Would be a bit of an embarrassing u-turn from us and they'd talk about it on TWTD, but we'd get over that far sooner than we would having to see McGovern in our side at any stage this season.

Or we could sign Joe Lewis, who ticks both the homegrown nation and homegrown club box!

Or sign Robert Green on a free transfer for a year.

Basically any goalkeeper but Michael McGovern.....

I do find the goalkeeper situation interesting. We all know they want a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet. They'd have known before pre-season started whether Remi is up to it or not. And it would seem not.

So I would think this is one area where recruitment hasn't gone as they'd have hoped/planned.

Wouldn't be surprised if they thought they were going to get Ward and Liverpool kept dragging it out - or something along those lines.

Imagine they will both be made available and then it'll be about which one we can get rid of for a better financial deal - if we have a choice.

Obviously McGovern is on a lot more money which might make him harder to shift. But if he is prepared to lose some £ he's probably going to have more takers than Remi.

I think I still suffer from the hangover of Joe Lewis. I thought the lad had a future here, at the time he was extremely well thought of (of course what has happened since maybe says he wasn't as good as we maybe thought) and, again at the time, I thought it a poor move shifting him on. I think Remi needs something akin to Championship standard football, but I wouldn't want to see him loaned to another Championship side, so I don't really know what the answer is. Stay here and learn from Tim Krull?

Still only 30 so not too old for a 'keeper, and don't get me wrong I'm glad we're addressing the goalkeeper issue, but I'm not 100% convinced by this.

Either way I'd like to see Matthews kept as 2nd choice. The idea of Krul flopping so we have to make do with McGovern is a horrifying prospect. Matthews may not have covered himself in glory in pre-season, but at least there's a chance that if for whatever reason he had to play in goal for he could do a job, and to be fair before pre-season I was relatively content with the idea that he would be first choice, seeing as he did so well out on loan last season, so really he should be good enough back-up.

How can you be more confident about Remi than McGovern?

Basically two goalkeepers who have done alright at lower levels.
