Good player but we looked very lightweight with Hoolahan, E Bennett, Redmond and Surman on the pitch together, so I have to wonder how much football he could realistically have got here considering both that and the number of midfielders we now have.

He was offered a contract I believe and obviously wanted to go back to Bournemouth, fair enough and good luck to the lad.

With Vadis signing, Howson to come back from injury and the new Scottish lad, he must have been pretty far down the pecking order. Wasn't impressed when he played against Wolves, but most of our players played pretty badly that day.

Shrewd not to sell before the game on Saturday. The fact he disappeared from view means Neil must have known he was off for a little while. Good management not to sell him and have him play against us, but to wait a while. I like that.

Is undisclosed but rumour is £1m, which if true is a very good fee considering he was in the final year of his contract.

As someone mentioned, with all the signings we've made, he's never going to get more than 10-15 minutes every now and again and the odd start in the Carling or FA Cup. Getting any money for him was good business with his contract running down. Had he of stayed he would be perhaps a 5th or 6th choice CM when everyone was healthy.

Forgot he played against Crawley. Was utterly anonymous.

Lightweight for me. Not a bad player but not Prem standard. Good for all parties.

Decent player last time we were in the Championship, but has really struggled with injuries and when given a chance in the last couple of years he hasn't really taken it. We're meant to be getting £1m for this which I feel is a good deal. We have plenty of options in central midfield anyway so he's pretty surplus to requirements here.

For me Surman is not strong or physical enough to play in central midfield, but not quick enough to play on the wing. Even though he's quite neat and tidy on the ball he doesn't really offer much going forward or defensively. Best of luck to him, but doesn't at all bother me that he's gone.

Scoring against the scum in our 5-1 win will be enough for me to have fond memories of his time with us. Thought he played a big part in the promotion under Lambert even though he was out through injury for a while. Goodluck Surs and thanks for the memories

Good luck to Surs. Not sure that he would have featured much at all. Was very poor against Wolves and in the cup where he had a great chance to showcase his skills. A few great memories under Lambert though in the promotion season.

I have always liked Surman and was pleased when he returned, but he simply wouldn't get enough game time here now. Best of luck to him down there, though.
