Takeover?

Now I have seen a couple if rumours about a guy called Terence Peluga who owns the Buffalo Billls and others in the states looking at taking over Norwich.

On one of the transfer rumour sites today there is a thread saying negotiations are advanced, Delia is ready to sell and that Adams going was part of the deal with this new guy having a manager in place he wants. Now I laughed when I read it but thought I'd do some research and on the Wikipedia Buffalo Bills site it says he's looking at taking over Norwich.

Now in my line of work the use of Wikipedia is considered poor practice so again I am taking this with a very large dose of salt but it does seem to be coming up more often, so just thought I'd share.

We can live in hope I suppose!! Do our American based posters have any information on this guy.

Apparently he has some family connection with Norfolk, but again I am not for one moment saying this is anything in this and just sharing some things I have seen to in some ways deflect a little from the on going saga.

I wouldn't have too much issue with this sort of takeover if it ever were to happen.

I agree for the reasons you mention, but it's nice to at least think of being the next footballing power. Move over Citeh!

Well I would rather have a filthy rich arab owner like Man City have who are willing to poor millions in and not see a return on their investment, chances are an american owner would want to see some sort of profit or put a min amount into the club or change the club into some kinda fancy brand.

Although, if you've got links to US Norwich and you're looking at buying a UK 'Soccer' club, wouldn't a club called Norwich City be of interest?

Hey, I have ancient connections to Norwich and if I had the money I'd drop it on the club - it's why I'm a supporter.  Coincientally enough a local guy here in Fort Worth just bought Alfreton Town down in Conference Premier (see the related thread in the "Other Football" section).

That said, someone on Twitter asked me about Pegula a week or so ago.  The guy has been good for the Sabres (NHL) and just acquired the Bills following the passing of Ralph Wilson, their owner since the club founding in 1959.  That the NFL put their trust in the guy to be Wilson's sucessor says a lot to me, and it affirms for me that the Bills aren't going to relocate.  They'd recently been spending a couple home games a year in Toronto and could have easily targeted Los Angeles or London.

But the kicker for me is what he did for his university, Penn State.  Penn State has had a strong club level (not NCAA) ice hockey team for decades.  Pegula just dropped over $100M on getting a new arena built and funding the scholarships needed to get an NCAA D1 team off the ground.  I'm a big hockey fan and have done radio commentary for local teams in the past and scouted for my own school's club team (U. of Oklahoma), so it's always great to see a program lifted to the big time.  But there's no real return for Pegula on that $100M - he just gave it away to get a real team off the ground.  All this is well and good, but I have no idea if the stories are valid.  Just because I'm American (well, Texan) it doesn't mean I know anything about a guy whose base of operations is 1,200 miles away.

It's not just American owners who have upset fans - ask Cardiff or Hull.

I am concerned if this happens because the spirit and style at Norwich is probably unique, and not compatible with a hard-headed entrepreneurial approach. I rather like "little old Norwich", with its traditions and all, and I am not sure I would enjoy a commercial enterprise however good and expensive the signings are.

You get good and bad owners from every nationality, including British. 

My only concern with foreign investors is that they often just get bored of their new toy relatively quickly. Nationality doesn't bother me so much, it is absence, I'd like an owner who is at least based in the UK and attends most games. Tony Fernandes seem to be at most of his clubs games, as does Roman Abramovich, whilst Randy Lerner isn't often seen at Villa Park these days, because he has lost interest. 

But Asia, Russia and the Middle East is where a lot of the money is these days, and the Premier League has started to rely on it. 

Even the British owners of Premier League clubs tend to run global companies and are non-domicile these days, the Spurs owner Joe Lewis has lived in the Bahamas for years and has sporting interests in the USA and once owned a stake in Slavia Praque, that's globalisation for you! Isn't Marcus Evans non-domicile too? 

A British owner isn't the be all and end all. Would you rather have Sir Phillip Green, a man who doesn't pay his UK tax and flies in from Monaco for 90 days a year, or a foreign born individual who is based in London and pays UK tax on his UK income? I know who I'd rather have. 

It's the absent owner thing which bothers me, including British people who are non-domicile.

And as anyone can, this particular bit of BS is now no more. A bit of research suggests that the the person who originally posted this rumour (started this rumour? I can find nothing else on the web about it) was located just outside Colchester. Take that as you will.
