So it turns out that the much vaunted £130m game at Wembley was worth only £80m for us as we are no longer entitled to 3 years worth of parachute payments.

It's a poor article.

A team doesn't get £130m in one season. They would get that over three seasons, assuming they were relegated after one season in the prem.

We were already getting parachute money, so the game was not worth 'an extra £130m' to us.

I thought I had heard it gets spread amongst the Premiership clubs. Not 100% sure though.

May be right, I'm not sure.

Seems a bit of a shame if it does go to the prem and not championship sides. Our friends down the road could use a bit of pocket money!!!

I think  the remaining 19.

I think unexpected windfalls should go into grass-roots football. Its not like the Premier League needs the money - but plenty of places for it to do good further down the pyramid

The main issue here, apart from the greed, is the fact "The Premier league PLC ( A subdivision of Sky broadcasting LTD)" is an entirely diffenent organisation to the football league.

Wouldn't it be a great business strategy to get relegated from the Premier League, spend 3 seasons in the Championship (losing 2 play-off finals and winning the 3rd), spend just a year in the Premier League (not spending any money on transfers) get relegated after 1 season and repeat the whole process?

Perhaps we should be viewing some teams with greater suspicion  :huh:

While saying up for 3 seasons is worth £200m - £240m so staying up makes sense.  

And from next season even finishing 17th each season means £100m pa - 50% up from current levels.    So 3 years in the prem gives us £300m+ any parachute payments for 3 years

It was called the £130illion game because it is worth £130 million to us even if relegated next May.

Approx £65 million for this season and roughly the same amount spread over four seasons if relegated without being re-promoted.

Any extra money earned from being in the Premier League would have to be spent on squad improvement and higher salaries. If we followed the business plan I outlined we could run a surplus each year, pay off all our internal debts and have enough money to expand the stadium. Of course I'm not suggesting we actually do that but claims we're going to be financially much better off in the Premier League are not necessarily true.

Or rather than pay off internal debts ( as I believe Delia and MWJ have stated that they are in no rush for the dosh) start putting a wee bit away in a savings account, against future stadium expansion / replacement of the City stand?
