Fantastic post OP - and pretty much replicates my thoughts.

Wiz - how does Becchio not getting into the team dictate that something is `clearly very wrong`?

In my opinion he's done nothing over pre-season to suggest he's

1) Interested in playing for us under Adams

2) Is fit and able to play

3) Looked likely to re-kindle his form he had at Leeds before signing for us.

His chances has been minimal and whilst I thought it silly that Hughton didn't use him when we first got him and he was in form - the fact that another manager can't see a place for him in the side speaks volumes.

The criticism of some is massively out of proportion to the reality. We are dealing with unknowns here. It is very easy to give doom laden predictions. Seeing the negative is always easier than finding the positives. We need more games before we can really begin to judge. I think Adams will do well but if he isn't doing the business after 5 games then the board need to re-evaluate very quickly and act decisively.

The danger of all the negativity for me is how it will translate to the players. We need to voice our support loud and clear for the next few games without immediately turning to getting on their backs because of last season. We need to be grown ups and understand on match days that there will be times in every match where the ball isn't running for us and that there will be some individual errors. The important thing is how we as fans react to those situations. I believe we need to stay behind the team regardless. Even if we are not impressed. Even if we are concerned. Even if we want to call for the managers head after 10 minutes of a game or if we go behind. You don't see many clubs succeed when their fans are heavily divided. It is easy to say that this is because fans get behind successful teams, but fans can also create such hostile atmospheres that even potentially successful teams can falter.

I cannot say oh everything's wonderful at City when clearly something is very wrong.

Becchio being just one example.
Wiz.....where did I say, or expect anyone to say 'everything's wonderful at City'?

That's as deluded as to suggest everything is terrible.

Not a single person in this thread has suggested that "everything's wonderful at City". That is as ludicrous a concept as thinking that everything is terrible at City.  One of the great things about this Forum so far is that it has very largely steered away from polarisation and long may that continue.

None of us know the true Becchio story but the fact that two managers clearly have very little time for him (despite one being in post when he was signed) suggests that the problem is with the player rather than anyone else. However, I stress that in the absence of any real evidence all we can do is speculate.

The Becchio story, it is a weird one. A tremendous goal scoring record at Leeds in the very same season he came to us, yet virtual oblivion ever since.

His attitude, whatever it may be, was clearly not hindering him at Leeds yet things just completely stalled with us. There will be good reasons why and all we can do is speculate, perhaps he is not as good as we thought, bad attitude, undisclosed injuries, who knows, but it is a real mystery.

A Becchio showing his goal scoring skills of a couple of years ago would be a massive asset to any Championship team.

Surely even if we don't want him there would be other clubs who would look at his past record and want him on board.

Just casting an eye over this, good discussion, but can we perhaps at least try not to suggest those that saw some good signs in the game (the first 15 of the second half being the obvious) are "deluded" or alcoholics. Opinions are just that.

The problem with casting an eye over things as opposed to reading them is missing the point. It is deluded to suggest everything is good at NCFC as it is to suggest everything is terrible. What your moderating style is threatening to do is constrain the expression of opinion on the opinions of others. That is definitely overkill.

And Wiz... That wasn't your opinion- I presented a balanced argument suggesting some pros in addition to the obvious cons of the Wolves game and you seem to think you've been asked to accept that 'everything is wonderful' when nobody here has mooted that point. What is the thought process behind your post there?

Actually I have read it all, but point taken. That in mind, I haven't removed anything, nor was I anywhere near doing so, I said that not as a moderator, but as a fan. I don't want to be labelled as an idiot for thinking that we were good for 15 minutes and thinking that we *might* not quite be doomed.

COTW: Forget the wiz from the PU, I happen to quite like this site so I'm not getting into arguments on it, I said what I thought, you disagreed so I'm leaving it there. .. cheers.

I'm finding it very hard to be optimistic right now. The board said they wanted the new manager to "play the Norwich way" but I didn't see anything new at Wolves - More of the same. The team looked lively during the first 20 minutes of the Celta Vigo game, but looked pretty much Hughtonesque in the second half. I thought they were just experimenting with the defence and how to hold on to a lead, but they replicated this style for the Wolves game.

I have to admit I do have a low tolerance threshold at the moment, having backed Hughton pretty much till the end. Adams seems like a good bloke and if he can get the results I'll be thrilled - I just want someone in the job who can actually get us to win for a change.

I was pretty livid when Adams was given the job though. I don't see why he should be rewarded for failure. One point out of a possible 15, and relegation to boot. (I know the run in was a bad one, but Sunderland managed to turn it round, and we just crumbled). We haven't scored for what seems like a long time either. The dross I saw on Sunday has confirmed my doubts about him.

Caveat though - I am very sulky as I was convinced Lennon was going to be appointed, and we will have to turn it round in a Lambert style for me to actually have any faith in Adams. I so want to be wrong about him.

So what is the universal opinion there? Do some not believe we improved drastically in the first 15 minutes of the second half? As I saw it we controlled the midfield, dominated possession and were starting to create chances (Grabban). I think had that carried on we'd be talking about a win now. I think the formation we played didn't help the full backs whatsoever, and in the end resulted in Olsson's red card. It was naive from Adams, but he's new to it and I'm willing to give him time to learn from his mistakes.

I skimmed through the match on Sky when I got back (couldn't bear to watch the whole game) and we didn't seem to be a poor as I thought when I was actually there. We did have a spell in the second half when we could have turned it round, and Lafferty looked good, so that's a positive I guess. Am also expecting great things from O'Neil!

It appears to me that there will be fans who go on canary call or the like and ignore any problems and just have an

optimistic ' stop moaning and get behind the boys ' attitude which has no thought process behind it.

All teams will be ring rusty and so there was not really an excuse for the performance on Sunday.

I saw no positives as the defence ( which has needed reinforcing for over a season ) looked in trouble with most attacks,,

the midfield  passed sideways at best and the strike force did not look like scoring.

If fans expect to roll over Watford and Balckburn they are likely to be mistaken as there are a lot of issues to be worked

on during this week before even the basics of attacking football can be established.

NA got almost everything wrong and if he starts with Garido and Whittaker as fullbacks we will be in big trouble.

He needs to improve selection, play the players in their correct positions and adopt a more positive attitude.

I hope I am wrong but there still appears to be a lot wrong with out club at the moment and I am concerned

about the boards ambition, the managers abilities and the players dedication.

With Olsson suspended, who would you play at LB CityOldBoy? The defence concerns me as well, especially with Deeney and Vydra leading the opposition on Saturday.

I am, as a supporter who normally leans towards the 'happy clappy' camp' unable to propose agreement with the opening poster.

Hardly one single thing has gone right for the Club since the defeat against the Baggies last season.

The appointment of Adams, temporary or otherwise, has achieved virtually  nothing to contradict the critical.

Last Sunday's game was awful. I  for one, am totally unable to glean one single positive from that abject display of what was , after all, a recent PL outfit pitted against a team who had just plied their trade at League One level.

One attempt on goal in ninety minutes. My ar-e..

Neil Adams  has, with consumate ease, propelled us back to the awful days under CH, whereby 'Houdini Hughton'  always seemed to be that one result away from the chop.

This is the Watford game now, IMO. If we lose this then all the underlyingwill disgruntlement about the appointment of Neil Adams in the first place will surface and will know no bounds.            .

"Unfair, too soon," they  cry. "Give him time, he's only had  one match" (six actually but let's not allow facts to get in the way of clappyism.) they bleat apologetically.

He shouldn't need time as he has one of the best squads available to any manager in that league and that 'one match' was a pitiable disaster of monumental proportions, IMO.

I remain fairly circumspect at the moment :D If we lose Saturday then I will have little control over my postings and that delete button will need to be at full capacity.

Yellow fever. I can only say Elliott Bennett who has dropped into LB position well before.

Although up against the MOTM on Sunday Olson had stopped any decent crosses

coming in. The first attack against Garido and a goal scoring cross came in and that was that.

IF Olson does go then we need a replacement immediately as Garido is simply not good enough.

To me its a mixed picture.  On one hand we have mostly the same players as last season, on the other we have a new manager who is learning on the job. All of them will be trying their hardest to get the balance right and they will need time.   I struggled with the team selection against Wolves and although it was a poor watch - it was only the first game of the season and they are notorious for odd results and performances.  As always we need to see a reaction in the next game.  The first game, nervy, lacking in confidence, Wolves full of running after their promotion, us a little tentative -  is gone and done with.  Watford will be a little different - they are a good side too and we will need Adams to get a reaction from the team and get them playing - whoever he picks.  He needs time and as for the negativity - there is one way that can be got rid of - through a good performance on Saturday.
