so he is back with a year left on his contract do you

1) sell him and get what we can

2) lend him out again and let go at the end of the season

3) give him a go in the championship

i am so desperate for him to succeed I am number 3?

any thoughts?

To go for 3 would be a decision of heart over head. We have not seen anything to suggest he is what we need in the Championship.

Option 1 would be ideal but I doubt if there would be any takers. Sporting Lisbon possibly where he has enjoyed some success but he would have to lower his wage demands which was the stumbling block a year ago. But maybe he will need to be more realistic now.

So I anticipate we will end up with option 2.

I think the best thing to do would be option 1, and bring in 2 new strikers to add to Jerome. As I said in the other thread though, I wouldn't be against option 3 as long as we bring in 2 new strikers anyway. Perhaps give Van Wolfswinkel a chance in the cup and if he impresses then maybe give him an opportunity in the league, and again if he continues to impress then maybe he can nail down a starting place.

So, who do we have?

Jerome, Wolfie, Lafferty, Carlton Morris and Naismith.

Hmmmmm

I gather he was/is prepared to lower his wage demands and that wasn't why the deal broke down last summer.

I would suggest the order is

1.  Sell if can

2.   If we can get a meaningful wage contribution loan him again

3.   Stuck with him so either

       a. mutually terminate his contract or

       b. decide that if we are going to pay him then we may as well use him

I suspect a sale is unlikely while a loan is possible,  although the wage contribution and 3 seasons of uninspiring performance is likely to deter many clubs.

As he will cost us something in all scenarios I can see us trying to make the most of a bad job and seeing what he can do,  we have something to gain and nothing more to lose.

Whatever your views on RvW his is a near impossible position;  unless his scores in one of his first couple of appearances a large vocal negative section of the fans will hasten to cry told you so, even if his overall performance is good.

And with naismith an attacking midfielder rather than striker we are left, in order of capability, with Jerome,  RvW, Lafferty & Morris.    Lafferty is inlikely to be here long by all accounts and there is a gulf in class between Jerome and the others ability.

Take him to the vet and have him put down imo.

Remember, ''the Championship is not the stage for his talents''. Spot on mr agent.

Currently option 3.  He in in our top 4 for the number 9 shirt and we will likely need all of them.

If we were to sell or loan the return would likely be peanuts so what's the point unless he wants to go?

if we can get one or two more in and he wants out we should probably let him go for the best price we can, otherwise we should give him game time.

3? Would have thought that Jerome, Naismith, Lafferty and any number of  youth forwards are ahead of him in the number 9 position.

''Nobody else wants him so we should give him game time''. Strange mentality from some of our fans.

Only want to see him in a city shirt again if he's proving his fitness before a sale.

It not we should play him because no one wants him but we are lumbered with him at the moment. Only Jerome is streets ahead.    Naismith is a better player but not as a forward,  hasnt really impressed either,  That leaves lafferty who we know struggles in the champs and Morris,  who looks short of laffertys level let alone anything more.  At least he does have scope to improve but  that is a bigger punt than RvW.

RvWs problem was having no strength - nothing has suggested that has changed so I expect him to struggle again.

Which is why we WILL sign a better option to Jerome.    If we are stuck with him and his wages because we can loan or sell we may as well make the most of him as a possible 3rd+ option - I dont see anyone suggesting more than that.

If we don't invest good money in a good striker we don't go back up, that's my opinion.

I expect Van Wolfswinkel to go back out on loan and then leave on a Bosman personally, difficult to see him taking a pay cut to leave on a permanent this summer and who can blame him because he'll probably spend the rest of his career on £5k a week in the Eredivisie.

I don't really see the point in keeping him here in contention. What are we going to gain from that, even if he does alright in the Championship he still isn't worthy of a new deal should we win promotion and we are better of taking a punt on an up and coming striker who may be able to make the step up.

Kodjia from Bristol City or Nakhi Wells from Huddersfield would be my choice, and I'd take Chris Martin back over Van Wolfswinkel.

If I were Ricky I'd stay put. No one is going to offer him anything the salary he must surely enjoy now. Also leaving for the Dutch or Portuguese leagues would effectively signal the end of his ambitions. If I were him I'd look for a loan or game time at carrow and reassess next season .

im not sure another loan would help us, unless the finances are shot. We would not save much and we'd have to write it all down as dead loss.

best I can see is keep him in the squad. If all he does is run willingly at burton or in the cups it'll be less miles on jeromes clock and if we don't buy upfront we will need him at his absolute best.

if we had more options or some real potential coming through maybe I'd think differently but we don't.

Morris has some physicality about him. Will be more effective than Ricky.

I can't wait for him to leave, will finally be rid of these conversations.

Easily the best finisher and most technically gifted striker we have left on the books, whether or not that means anything is another matter, I remember Martin's finishing being lauded (as was Lupoli's by Wenger et al), but neither has pulled trees up (although Chrissy has been one of Derby's most important players since he joined them)....

Morris modeled his game on and spent fair bit of time with Grant Holt, who spoke very well of him.

There reaches a point when these youngsters have to put up & be good enough for the first team or just leave.

Treading water ain't good for them or the club.

If you were a defender would you rather play against Jerome or RVW?

Everyone is good when they aren't under pressure.

RVW being Technically gifted and a good finisher are two of the biggest myths around the club. It's like if you aren't physical you have to be technically gifted, Ricky is neither. He's a simple poacher that has lost all of his confidence in front of goal.Worthless player, total waste of a squad number if we can't shift him.

If he didn't have a fancy Dutch name I doubt people would want him anywhere near the club.

Have to agree with this.

Yes he can probably finish when he's got confidence (which he lost 3 years ago and may never get back).

But where would that actually leave him, he'd still just be a Dutch Adam Le Fondre, and you need a hell of a lot more to your game to be a top striker.

Javier Hernandez you'd consider a "poacher", only he has a fair bit more pace, can dribble, can shoot on the turn, beat a player occasionally. Got far more to his game.

Also harsh how Gary Hooper who is considered lazy fat man who wasn't suited to our style of football, but doesn't get the same "but he's got technical ability" get out of jail card, when clearly he has that in abundance, he's better than Van Wolfswinkel.

Just need to accept that Van Wolfswinkel has been a flop, and that the best thing he could do now for his dignity and pride is return to Eredivise (where Jozy Altidore could score for fun) so he improve his wiki stats for his grandkids.
