That's fair enough, Surgeryman, and I agree with you, but as for your comparison with Ruddy, at least you don't have to operate in front of a 27,000 crowd focusing on everything you do (or don't do). How would you feel about people who aren't medically trained commenting on your techniques when you operate?

No different for me Yellow. Both situations mean you are under pressure and indeed both situations are capable of a wrong response!

In a surgery based scenario you could have a member of staff react towards a colleague, but the difference is in the reaction to that response. The public do also react back hence zero tolerance policies that have arisen from situations were behaviour has been unacceptable.

That's how Ruddy should have reacted, especially if the responses was unprofessional. Report to stewards, ref, police ....etc. Not gesture. I don't have so much of a problem with him using social media also but you have to gauge the response and think through the reaction.

His message was very broad and seemed against all fans when really it was the idiots ironically cheering during the Reading game.

However, I see both sides of the debate here and as always value yours. Indeed it's been quite good to see in the main sensible debate on this between posters, which is why I contribute to this site.

We all agree the John Ruddy is a good keeper and we want him back to his best.

It seems most would like our players to be robots. When did football fans get so delicate? Quite happy to give people dogs abuse but can't accept a player saying he's disappointed to receive it given his loyal service (quite right he is too). You say it has suited him to be here and he hasn't done it out of the kindness of his heart, but he's had offers to be elsewhere and as he told one brainless turd on Twitter who accused him of not caring and only being here for the money - if it was a case of being here for the £££, he'd have left years ago. Genuinely cannot believe how quick we are to turn on him for speaking his mind.

Completely agree with this. I simply don't understand a mentality that feels entitled to treat other people with so little respect and expect anything more in return.

For Ruddy's part, yes he's had a dip in form, but it's a rare player that doesn't experience that from time to time. Joe Hart was having a sticky patch not so long ago, was allowed to play through it and did so. If you have someone who has demonstrated over a very long period of time how good they are then I think they've every right to expect a bit of patience while they get back in the zone. Thought he was looking a lot better already yesterday, although distribution was a bit off still.

Well said, Surgeryman, and I agree completely about the advantages of this site where issues are discussed and debated without personal attacks or put-downs. I hope we can keep it that way!

Fair play to Ruddy yesterday. Made a few good saves, and with the exception of one cross that he dropped (although I think that was more a case of Lafferty getting in his way) he was faultless.

Adams said after the game yesterday that he spoke to Ruddy in the week and said that he still believes in him and knows how good he is. I wonder whether that had a big effect on Ruddy, as he did appear much more confident, and dominant yesterday.

I think the whole team was far more focussed and prepared to graft and concentrate for the full 93 minutes, and that made all the difference.

On Saturday we made a point of chanting Ruddy's name whenever he touched the ball and I think that helped. It was certainly more conducive to getting the best out of him than ironic applause.

Pleasing to hear something positive, but I thought all of you travelling fans were brilliant on Saturday and it does seem to have made a difference. Let's hope that happens again against Huddersfield and we get another win!

Only got back to putaland last night, so a late comment..My nephew was at game, txd me that Ruddy had a sound game, not perfect but did his job well..Fans gave him lots of support and also for the whole team, and really did put on a good showing for the  NCFC camp...After my recent criticism of JR not seemingly interested, I'm really pleased that he came good on Saturday, long may he continue..Saw goal on highlights, was impressed by the work of Jerome, Hooper and Howson for the goal....Well done all you away supporters for the way that you got behind the team,et al

£4m? Considering we rejected £10m from Chelsea last season I think we'll politely tell Everton to f*ck off.

We shouldn't sell for anything under £7/8m in my view.

I would sell for £ 6/7 million. I think the recent events will have turned his head and he will want to get his England career back on track.

Should be able to get a decent replacement for that and Bunn Or Rudd will step up.

It's a tricky one. Rudd is developing well and Bunn is a good shot stopper, but has some weaknesses as well. On balance, I'd rather have Ruddy than the money, but it might makes sense if we fail to gain promotion this year.

Yeah, could do I guess. I am asking the question though, because I don't know, I vaguely remember that he was told he could look for another club, then he picked up quite a bad injury, but I haven't heard anything of him for a long, long time.

I think, going forward I would prefer Ruddy and Rudd to be our keepers.

And interestingly just read in todays presser that Mark Bunn has just returned to training, first I have heard mention of him in a long time!

I think people often forget how good Bunn was for us a couple of seasons ago when Ruddy had that serious injury that kept him out for about 5 months. Don't think he really made any mistakes (with the possible exception of the contentious handball vs Sunderland where he ended up getting sent off), and he made a number of good saves along the way, and in a way it's unfortunate that he's barely played since. His size though is a bit of an issue. He's 5ft11 which for a keeper is pretty small, and therefore some saves that are routine for the 6ft4 John Ruddy, are a little bit more difficult for him through no fault of his own.

Obviously Ruddy is the better keeper, however if Ruddy's form continued to be a problem, and he was subsequently dropped, I would have absolutely no problems with Bunn stepping in. Rudd though is also a very good keeper, who did well on loan at Preston last season, and I wouldn't have any issues with him stepping up either really.
