saints?  already have higher wages, are south based so fits CA demands,  and as a clubhave better alternatives in pelle and long (even if the latter is a liverpool target) as such their dependency on his knees is lower;   playing mainly as a sub suits any injury.   End of contract price means its sensible business for one of the few clubs he would go to (surprised palace didnt show an interest tho)

Well you have to add Brady, Dorrans buy option, Jarvis buy option and if we have already agreed Mbokani's buy option after season if Johnson is added on other side.

Also if you check our current age structure it doesn't look healthy. Naismith 30 and Klose 28 this year.  We have only Redmond and Brady under 25 from players that get game time and only 3 players under 27 this year which is considered the age after decline starts in physical attributes and recovery.

This season we have 10 players 30 or over and Naismith is 11th. Only Whittaker and Ruddy are players that we dont at the moment rely on.

So I wouldn't applaud yet before  we even see if these 3 can do the job. This just means that we cant turn many of our players to money if we relegate and we have to in few seasons replace almost whole starting 11 without possibility of healthy competition or players developing behind.

In champioship we probably can cope by youth developement, but in premiership our age structure starts to look roster of a dying team just like what happened with Fulham. In next summer if we survive we should only look in age group 20-25 if we want any continuity.

Don't think the 30 mark is that much of a big deal really. Would be a bit worried if the core of the squad was 33 plus but in today's age of red zones and sports science we'll be fine.

If he was two or three years younger I'd be more interested. I have heard he is on 80k a week at his club, I really don't think we would be prepared to make that leap in wages.

I see him as a stop gap until we can buy a similar striker, and if we stay up then we should be able to.
