I agree with you all. Hard to find fault with this move. Not only incredibly experienced but also fabulously connected.

How long before there are calls to make Phelan the main man though? If this happens, is it an end to the disputes or merely a staging post?

As a coach, fantastic. Couldn't find anyone with more experience. Would be a gamble though if he was to ultimately take over from Adams. Fergies no2s don't generally make successful managers.

You have to wonder though whether though it's something similar to what Fulham did last season, when Fulham bought in Meulensteen alongside Jol, and then sacked Jol a couple of games later and appointed the former.

So as Twitter and Din and Sharonb above illustrate, it has started. This appointment is excellent but it increases not decreases the pressure on Adams. From fans and social media at least. That's a shame. This regime deserves a chance to bed in and show what it can do.

A great signing in every way. He was highly thought of at Old Trafford, and must have learned a lot under Ferguson. I think that we could some effect from the appointment very soon on the pitch. So long as there are no tensions, his presence should improve Adams as a manager, and also up his own game in the presence of competition!

If as some people, but not I, seem to think, Adams is not up to it or is too inexperienced, Phelan could be a very good replacement.It's surprising that he wasn't chosen before Robson this summer, but perhaps Phelan had other things to explore. According to Adams in the interview in the Pink, Phelan very much wants to come, however.

This sums up my feelings too Boyerboy, far too many have already made up their minds about Adams. He probably will get sacked in due course, most managers do, and there's every chance that Phelan will take over. But let's at least give the new regime a chance first
