Wembley Anecdotes and Trivia

My first thread and like an MP's maiden speech, best if it is not controversial.

I thought it might be pleasant to share those odd, silly or amusing moments from yesterday that we would enjoy sharing but wouldn't bother to post unless a thread like this existed.

To start:

I am still not sure that it was not a hallucination but assuming that it was not, I spent the entire game sat in front of a youngish man who only stopped from criticising Jerome when he had a go at Whittaker!

Jerome apparently was lazy, not chasing, not trying and not making a contribution to the team effort.   These criticisms intensified after we were 2-0 up.  Whittaker cannot tackle or pass and played his team mates into repeated danger.

The man sat next to this singularly opinioned chap tried to argue but was rebuffed.  It was put up with it or hit him and I wanted to watch the match.

A guy in front of me sat in the wrong seats and was subsequently removed from them not once, not twice, but thrice. I don't know how him and his son made it to Wembley without assistance in the first place.

Pretty funny moment on the coach up there, when we were stuck in traffic only a couple of miles from Wembley, this elderly Norwich fan with a walking stick, a yellow carrier bag, and a Norwich shirt on that just said 'Brian' on the back, walked past us. But every 20/30 yards or so he'd stop and sit down on the nearest wall and catch his breath. As the coach was moving pretty slowly we passed him several times and each time we passed everyone on the coach would shout 'Go on Brian!'. There was one point where Brian was resting for quite a while, when this big bald bloke with 'Ruddy' on his back walked towards him, and someone on the coach shouted "Ruddy's come to save Brian". Doesn't sound that funny but at the time it was pretty funny.

'Ruddy' helped Brian along for a bit, until there was one point where to keep going towards Wembley the 2 had to walk in the road for a few yards. However Brian instead decided to walk up a different path, uphill, in the other direction, before later discovering that there was no way out to Wembley that way so he had to turn around and come all the way back down the hill (with Ruddy's assistance).

Eventually the coach driver let Brian and 'Ruddy' get on the coach and have a sit down for the rest of the journey (which was only a mile or two. Or in other words about an hour and a half's drive). Fair play to the driver, and to Brian and Ruddy, who took it all in good humour.

I have an Uncle called Brian, who is also bald (although not that old) who despite being a West Ham fan considered getting a ticket for this game, but eventually decided against it. So I sent him this photo asking him whether he actually got a ticket in the end :D

Not quite on the scales of you guys but;

We won the Milk Cup on my sister's birthday, and Monday was my Mum's birthday!

Oh, and I cried at the final whistle (I am a middle aged man with teenage daughters)

Some big geezer picked me up after the 1st goal and almost dropped me off the side down to the lower tier, knocked my sunny's off as well. Then when I bent down to pick up my glasses I found £15 on the floor, so a couple of free half-time beers to get over that moment of panic  B)

I just loved being on the tube after the match, and the standard announcement of "mind the gap" being made that triggered a large group of City fans to sing "mind the gap, mind the gap"....unless you are a CIty fan of course it meant nothing to the neutrals on the train at the time. (Unfortunately, the same group of fans also let themselves and the club down a little later by they apparent need to take a couple of boro fans outside at the next stop to "teach them a lesson").

Seeing 4 other supporters in Norwich shirts getting off my train at Horsham in deepest Sussex after the game. Plus 2 other supporters not in shirts.

Normally after home games its pretty much just me. So maybe I will have a bit more company next season.

I saw a couple of people headed that way on my London train as well. Just me off at Newhaven though.
