What does Adams need to achieve by January to get the supporters back on side?

Just that really. Transfer window opens in January, so this will be a deadline for some as its when we have the chance to change the squad. For Adams to have the confidence of the fans that he is still the right man to be making those decisions and deciding on the direction of the club, where does the club need to be in the league and what needs to have changed on the pitch?

What does Adams have to achieve in the next month to have your backing in January?

Why not ask him to walk on water? He would have five games, of which three are away and one of them at Derby, and he would have two at home, one of which is Millwall.

If we demand three of four wins then it's more demanding than earlier when we were near the top.

If this were the demand made by the board, perhaps Adams should resign now, or is that the idea?

There has to be improvement, both in consistency of performance and in results, nobody questions that , although he is starting with a team shot on confidence and with Phelan new.  For my part I would suggest ten points in the five games would be quite an achievement in view of where he is starting.

Ten points being quite neatly between 3 and 4 wins......

IMO, 10 points is an 'over expectation' yet again. Nothing wrong with that as a target, but I can't see it as an expectation, myself. If we could get back into the play-off places in those 5 games that would be an indication of recovery to me and get many of the fans back on board for the second half of the season. A win or at least a draw against Derby would be a big boost as well.

Adams will not get most supporters back on side imo, regardless of points won.  He could win five matches, but if he does it will be seen to be down to Phelan. He is nothing more than a caretaker manager now imo.   If we do well and get back up to the top, the best he can hope for is the kudos of being in a successful management team, but as a stand alone manager, he doesn't have what it takes imo.

It won't be seen as simply down to Phelan in my book.

If that were likely to be the case he should have backed himself and took on an actual managers role.

Despite what others might say a team is a team and if collectively we do well here on in, I will certainly praise Phelan, but i'll also praise Adams for taking advice from coaches on board and adjusting parts of his management.

It would be unfair for me not to do so when my main criticism of Hughton was how reluctant he was to change things.

I think this is a difficult question to answer, simply because, although I hate to say it, I believe Adams is still within "one bad result of the sack".

Play well but lose, he may get more time. However, all dropped points will just make the situation worse.

I can't see the Board falling into the " just doing enough trap" like last season and i therefore still feel Derby away may be the crucial fixture.

5 Wins.

Tbh unless he gets 12 points or more in the 5 games we have before January, he's still not going to win a lot of the supporters back round. I'd say he needs at least 10 points here to get some of the fans back. The thing is though even if we get 15 points, there will still be a large section of fans that still want him out.

10 points minimum is fair and reasonable with the squad at his disposal and Fergie's ex No.2 by his side.

Two points per game was the target at the start of the season and we exceeded that for a while and then lost our way. It's a reasonable target for 5 games then, especially as the first 3 points were picked up today. 7 points from 4 games seems doable and would at least put us back amongst the contenders for promotion. Interesting that even Derby has not achieved 2 points per game though.

So what is the expectation of supporters?

Clearly there are some gloating in the apparent inability of an NA side to play really well at the moment simply because they didn't want him and don't particularly like him either. But there again some people dislike BJ for some reason and will never give him credit.

The majority of us want success for the club and the person at the helm is not important. But as NA was appointed we want him to do well if if not totally sure of his credentials or ability.

And there are others who don't understand the criticism of him as they think he is doing a reasonable job and its quite possibly the players fault.

So he will never win over the first group. And he hasn't lost the third group. So its us lot in the middle who need to be convinced. And assuming the majority of the majority see promotion as fairly crucial, you can probably say we need 60 points from our remaining 26 games.

So in reality, that is 18 wins, 6 draws and 2 defeats. So the next four games, that takes us to January, and the opening of the transfer window. And to make inroads toward that target, it has to be three wins and a draw. And I guess that means a draw at Derby.

But realistically, I would imagine, two home wins and two away draws would be very acceptable especially if the football played improved as well and some form of acceptance and even forgiveness would be achieved.

I think you're wrong on that one. The board has done and is doing everything possible to make it work with Adams as manager. There's no arguing that he came into the job with no more than a horrific senior team baptism of fire at the tail end of last season, but I think the board decided that his lack of experience at senior team level was outweighed by the raw qualities that he has: He knows the game, he has had major success with out youth setup, he's an excellent communicator, he's ambitious and he's quite obviously pretty devoted to Norwich. In turn, they've tackled his appointment with a view of providing all possible support to compensate for the lack of experience by bringing in real heavyweights to support him as he gains experience, by which I'm referring to the initial appointment of Joe Royle and now the introduction of Mike Phelan.

I also think the Mike Phelan appointment was a superb reaction to the situation and there were two recent comments from Paddy Davitt and Michael Bailey on social media that made me think that it's going to work. Firstly, Paddy Davitt said from listening to Mike Phelan that management is not what he came here for. But also there was a comment yesterday from Michael Bailey  that Mike Phelan joined Adams in the technical area, put his arm on his shoulder and the two of them went into a deep discussion that resulted in a change on the pitch, which suggests that the dynamic is healthy.

Whether it does work out in the long term, only time will tell, but I think the board has been doing everything for the right reasons and my own feeling is that Adams is only going to get better as his experience grows, and in the meantime he has the intelligence to draw on the experience of those around him. With the potential reward of a good manager who you can say with reasonable certainty won't be tempted away by, to pluck a name out of the air,  Aston Villa and the long term dividend from the added stability then it's a punt worth sticking with.

Well said POJ! If there are supposed 'fans' who would still want Adams out after 5 straight wins then that says it all, IMO. Personally speaking, if we can get back into the promotion places with a decent run of something like 2 points per game, then the vast majority of fans will be back on board. IMO Phelan adds another dimension to a good management team and will take us forward now without being seen as the 'man behind it all' any more than Adams is. It is a team working with a 'team' of players. That showed yesterday, and if the football wasn't 'pretty' all the time, it was effective and it gained a vital 3 points. The other major difference was the over 1000 travelling supporters who really got behind the team yesterday.
