Obviously it's all about opinions, and if you didn't like it then fair enough. I loved it though personally. I can see why people didn't like it but I thought it was magnificent. The editing to make it look like it was all one shot was fantastic, and the cinematography in general was gorgeous. Obviously if you don't enjoy it then none of these things really matter, but I really enjoyed it.

To be honest I thought it deserved to win the best picture, however that's mainly because it wasn't up against much stiff competition. The only film I think that could've rivalled it was Whiplash (which I'd highly recommend if you haven't seen it). But apart from that there wasn't really any 'great' films. The likes of The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything and American Sniper are all very good, but none of them are great.

If it had been made a year earlier then there is no chance it would've won the best picture Oscar, as it would've been up against the likes of 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, Gravity, which in my mind are all 'great' films. As I said it's just fortunate in a way that it didn't have much competition this year.

Just got back from the new Mad Max. If you like your action with a side of more action, go for it. Loads of fun.

Haven't watched as many films in the last month or so as I've had exams, and have therefore been revising. But these are the ones I have watched:

I Origins - 6.5/10

Actually quite good but it just felt really strange at the same time for some reason that I can't put my finger on. The ending was quite far fetched as well. As I said it wasn't at all bad but I probably won't watch it again.

12 Years A Slave - 8/10

Can see why it's very highly rated. Ejiofor was excellent, as was Fassbender. Had a classy feel to it, mainly down to how beautifully done the editing and filming of it is, the ending was actually quite emotional, and the film was also a potent reminder of the awful things that used to happen to black people. One thing I would say is that is slightly predictable. Really enjoyed it and I was gripped all the way through.

Annabelle - 6.5/10

Better than I thought it would be, but still not quite as good as the Conjuring (which is obviously what Annabelle is the prequel to). Typical horror film really nothing particularly unexpected or 'out there' about it, but it was still quite good.

It Follows - 7.5/10

Probably the scariest film I've seen for a while. Haven't really seen anything like it before. It was a bit weird but thought on the whole it was excellent. Ending was quite disappointing though I have to say, but I suppose it sets it up quite nicely for a sequel.

Chappie - 4/10

There was nothing really particularly exceptional about this and the plot isn't really that original either. I thought Dev Patel was good, but it wasn't Hugh Jackman's best performance. Quite boring thought to be honest and the acting from the Die Antwoord pair was appalling.

Man of Steel - 6/10

Actually considered turning it off after 45 minutes. Glad I didn't as it gradually got better but still wasn't brilliant. I usually like Amy Adams her character was dumber and more feminine than her roles usually are, which I didn't like. Wasn't expecting a masterpiece but still slightly disappointed by it.

Prisoners - 7.5/10

The cinematography and editing was flawless, and the acting from the 2 main actors, particularly Jackman was excellent. Gyllenhaal was very good as well though. The main downfall for me was that the first hour or so was quite boring tbh, it did get better but I think it would've been better if the film was a bit shorter, and bits of the opening hour were cut. It was good though overall, although I have to admit I expected slightly better, but that's mainly because I had quite high expectations.

The ending though. The f*cking ending. How can they end a film like that? I felt like screaming at the screen. I know because of Gyllenhaal's character we're supposed to assume what happens, but I literally couldn't believe that ending.

Been watching a few more of the 'classic' films that I haven't yet seen recently. Since my last post in here:

Bronson - 7/10

Really strange but at the same time brilliant. I can see why people would either really like this or just hate it, but I personally thought it was great. Incredible performance from Hardy, who just dominates the screen. Definitely one of his best performances, but to be honest it is lucky he was as good as he was because the acting from every other character was pretty bad. The soundtrack was great and created a really weird, intense sort of atmosphere. Don't think this was a fantastic film, but it was certainly very good.

And also, didn't expect to see Tom Hardy's *bleep* either in this film, that was a bit of a surprise :D

The Machinist - 8/10

A great psychological thriller this one. I've seen people compare this to Memento, and I can understand why. It's quite an abstract plot and the cinematography is quite grey and bleak, which is also the case in Memento. Christian Bale completely steals the show. His weight loss in unbelievable, and even if you (somehow) look past that it was a great performance. I actually preferred him in The Fighter to this, where he also lost a lot of weight, but aside from that this was probably my favourite of his performances I've seen.

Mad Max: Fury Road - 8.5/10

Easily the best action film I have ever seen. The action sequences, particularly the one at the start of the film were unbelievable. The film starts ridiculously quickly and barely stops. Visually it was stunning as well, although there are so many f*cked up things in this films, it must've taken a ridiculously dark mind to think of some of the stuff we see in this. I didn't even recognise Charlize Theron at first, she looks so different, but puts in a superb performance. I didn't think it was Hardy's best role, however that's mainly because his character barely said a word throughout, he undoubtedly is very good though, as was Nicholas Hoult. Hard to criticise this film really, only thing I didn't think was particularly well done was all the fade to black's, which didn't really fit in with the content of the film. There's also no real sort of plot to this at all, but that didn't really matter at all.

Saving Private Ryan - 8.5/10

Seen this before but not for years. Fantastic film, reminded me just how good an actor Hanks was in his prime. Easily the best war film I've ever seen.

Trainspotting - 7/10

Never seen this before, and I really enjoyed it. The technical features were fantastic and I can see why it's so highly rated. It was incredibly f*cked up and dark in places, but obviously it's from the point of view of a heroin addict so it needs to be, and I thought the dark scenes were really well done. The script is excellent and it is also pretty funny, however it just didn't feel I was watching a 'classic' which is what I was expecting. As good as the acting is I didn't think any of the charaters or the story itself really engulfed me, and to me it wasn't particularly intense, and I didn't really feel any sort of attachment to the main characters, which I think you need to consider something a great film. It's a good film but nothing more to me tbh.

Taken 3 - Not even worth a rating

Literally ridiculous, even more so than the first 2. I was laughing all the way through. I liked it though but mainly because it was so funny. Amazingly the plot actually had slightly more depth to it this time, but even so it was incredibly predictable. In terms of how it rates as a piece of cinema it was woefully bad, but as I said it was a great laugh.

Looks like there's gonna be a Taken 4 though judging by the ending. They really need to let this die.

Reservoir Dogs - 7.5/10

Not my favourite of Tarantino's work, but still a great film. Keitel is superb, and the ending was one of the best endings to a film I've seen for a while. Really enjoyed it.

Requiem for a Dream - 8.5/10

Been on my to-watch list for ages, and I'm very glad I finally got round to seeing it. Incredibly dark in places but in a spectacular sort of way, and it wasn't just dark for the sake of it. Leto in particular is very good. He actually looked and sounded like he was on drugs for the whole thing, Burstyn was also superb. The technical side of this was excellent as well. It also had an incredible soundtrack. I usually think that split-screens look a bit cheap and amateur-ish, but the way it was used in this was very effective. The fast paced panning shots as well were brilliantly done. Overall this was quite full-on but not over the top, and it was a really good film.

Snatch - 8/10

Haven't seen too many Guy Ritchie films but I'm definitely going to watch more. Easily one of the best British films I've ever seen. Nice to see a Brad Pitt character with a bit of personality for a change, and even though it's a crime film it's actually really funny as well. Got a lot of time for Statham, and even though Vinnie Jones isn't the greatest actor in the world I liked him in this.

Falling Down - 7.5/10

Really enjoyed it. Hadn't really seen anything like it before and it was pretty funny as well. That final scene on the pier has to go down as one of the 'great movie moments'. Made the film for me that scene.

Jurassic World - 7/10

Completely ridiculous but enjoyable at the same time. The acting with the exception of Pratt and D'Onofrio wasn't great, and it was somehow even more unrealistic than the first 3 in particular that ending. As a follow up to the JP trilogy it wasn't great, but as a film on it's own it was decent.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - 8/10

Not quite as good as Snatch for me, but still a very good film, and not hard to see why it's so highly rated.

'71 - 7.5/10

I'm too tired to think of something to write about it, but great film. Jack O'Connell is excellent.

The Business - 3/10

Cheesy cliche filled snorefest starring Danny Dyer. The type of film that FHM would give an award to. Sticking with it all the way through felt like a feat of endurance.

Why would you watch something with Danny Dyer in it? You're on a hiding to nothing there.

Watched Cockneys vs Zombies the other day.

Was as *bleep* as you would think a film called Cockneys vs Zombies would be.

X Men. Last night. Implored by a 10 year old friend of a friend who's a bit of a fan of such things to watch it. It was entertaining I suppose. I gather they've made more of them. Last time at cinema was Fury last year.

Last film at the cinema was 'Ant-Man' which I really enjoyed, but the last film in general I watched was 'Aliens' last night, must be the 123rd time I've watched that movie and it never gets old.

I hope to never to see Taken 3 again, never mind see it mentioned in a sentence with two classic films!

If anyone hasn't watched "The imitation game" yet, then you really should.

The best film I have seen in quite a while.

Iv been making an attempt to watch the entirity of IMBDs top 100 over the years (excluding the Japanese Manga stuff). Iv found myself down to the foreign language films now, and you have to be in the right mood for that so progress has been slow. Iv just started watching Das Boot (the 6 part series - not watched the film yet) and its pretty interesting. Have found myself this weekend reading all about my grandfathers' ships during the war.

There have been some good foreign language films I've watched however. I recently watched Mientras duermes which was quite good. Los cronocrímenes is quite good, as is Abre los ojos, (which is the original of Vanilla Sky). Id also recommend La vita è bella, À la folie... pas du tout and L'arnacoeur. All worth the effort required to watch a foreign film.

In terms of animated films, I would highly recommend Up and Mary and Max (both are very touching)

I would also recommended a few films which I think are a lot better that their IMDB rating - I thought a film called Consenting Adults (which only gets 5.7) was a very interesting concept and good performance from Kevin Spacey. I also liked Mr Brooks and The Number 23. I also really liked Derailed, Gone Girl and possibly the two films I've enjoyed most in recent years are Law Abiding Citizen and Wolf of Wall Street. I really enjoyed both Rush and Whiplash for their intensity.

On another note, the worst flims I have watched and would avoid like the plague, The Wild Blue Yonder, The Limits of Control, Cloud Atlas, Red, The Expendables and Interstellar

Spoiler alert, but if you've already seen Interstellar you might find the following salient

Sadly I've recently watched both Interstellar and Jupiter Ascending and agree that they were bloody awful, however I really enjoy both RED and The Expendables for what they are.

For any horror lovers out there, I'd highly recommend The Cabin in The Woods to anyone who hasn't seen it yet, my personal favourite horror film of the past decade tbh.

I have been in a bit of a dark place for a while and so i have been watching some really odd sick movies
which may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Antichrist- magnificently acted and beautifully shot

Nekromantic- horrible,just horrible

Saló or 120 days of sodom

In a glass cage- horrific as it is true

As for other films in the list i loved Requiem for a dream but still get haunted by the music that plays throughout, i used to cringe whenever the music was played in the background of football focus. The book is very good, which brings me onto Trainspotting the book a feel is better than the film.
