Where will you finish?

He only played left back for us last season because Olsson was injured, we very much see him as a left winger.

Would you swap the current Norwich squad, as things stand, for the current Villa squad? Your answer to that question could potentially tell us all that we need to know, because I definitely would not.

Its not just Canos who is young, hungry and talented. Josh Murphy returns to the fold having won the Player of the Season for a Championship side, Jacob Murphy tore up League 1 last season, and James Maddison looks like a huge talent.

I've said it already, but the only area of the pitch were we are lacking the required quality for a promotion push in this league is the striking department, we need a couple of goalscorers.
Everyone needs a goalscorer so I think you are ambitious to want two. Jerome has proved his worthiness at this level. One more "scorer" together with the backup of the others is about all we can really expect.

We've lost Grabban (12 goals), Hooper (12 goals), and Johnson (15 goals) since our last promotion from this league.

Obviously Jarvis, Naismith, Brady, etc will all pitch in with goals this season, but we could really do with another striker unless he's going to use Van Wolfswinkel.

Obviously I'm not talking anybody too expensive for the second striker, assuming that our primary signing is a big one like McCormack.

A couple of million on Will Griggs or something perhaps.

We did actually sign both Grabban and Jerome in our last season in this league, two strikers.

I agree with what you say as  we know that striking was our success under Lambert and our downfall under Hughton and last season so you can't have too many strikers. But is another decent striker going to come just for wages if the team is successful from the start? Even  a 2 million striker ought to be challenging for a starting berth. I am assuming that AN is still going to go with 1+1 rather than two up front and Wes and Naismith ought to have the +1 sewn up. Unless of course he plays the diamond.

If the players are mentally ready I think we will take a minimum of a play off place.    We have a broadly championship squad and if the attitude is good the quality will tell.

We do need a striking alternative to Jerome,  but have no doubt that will arrive before the window shuts.  Any other positions are nice to have (eg better centre backs)

I think even if we don't bring in anyone else this window we will at least finish in the play-off's. Obviously automatic promotion is the aim but this is a difficult league, and you would think Newcastle already have one of the top 2 spots sewn up.

The only player of the current squad I can see going is Brady, and it wouldn't surprise me if he stayed. Even if we don't bring anyone else in though our team will be:

Ruddy
Pinto Bennett Klose Olsson
Howson Tettey
Canos Naismith Brady
Jerome
That is an excellent Championship team, and that's not even counting new signings. If we bring in McCormack/a goalscorer and a decent centre back then I don't think there's any reason why we can't challenge Newcastle for top spot.

Now we seem intent upon getting that marquee striker, whether it be McCormack or some other that has been kept under wraps I feel that the squad is complete and strong enough to be there or thereabouts for the entire season.

A play-off place would be my minimum.

My main concern is with the manager. Will we see the decisive purposeful Alex Neil of two seasons ago or will we see the indecisive tinkerman of last season?

My ardent support for him gradually dwindled as that Premier League season unfolded and as he made a lot of mistakes, never being quite sure of his favoured line-up or even his tactics. At times he seemed out of his depth and my growing lack of confidence in the man was compounded by our abject and rather pathetic attempts at survival from more or less the Palace game onwards.

On balance I will retain maximum faith in Alex to do the required job in the coming season. He has many good attributes that suggest the makings of a fine manager, but should we be floundering after ten games, should old mistakes continue then I, for one, would wish for a change and one ASAP as this is such a vital season for the future of NCFC.

We cannot afford to dither along under an indecisive manager who begins to show that he is not up to the job after all. We can afford little more time for AN to continue the need for learning. Many clubs in the championship now seem to be well-financed and on the up, with consequent expectations of success.

Neil's education should be complete and he has the tools to do the job.
