Who should we buy in January?

Just like we missed out on the chance to bring Lambert back, we also missed out on bringing back the obvious Grant Holt successor - super Chrissy Martin. He's the closest thing to Grant Holt in the league. 

Although Glenn Murray would have done for a short term fix.

Glenn Murray was a miss thats for sure;  but he has always been south coast based so may not have moved.

At the moment I would be happy average players with a desire to win rather than a squad, as mulumbu put it for saturday, going through the motions - which imo should be a wages fine and touted about for a sale next month

Kinda glad we didn't sign him, because Alex Neil would have given him a 4 year contract or something - he's 33. 

Strange how we haven't made use of loans this season, Alex Neil was happy to use it last season and the season before. 

Should imagine we'll be looking to loans in January no matter who the manager because the board will now be worried about be stuck in this league when 1st tier parachute payments run out in 18 months (so no high earning players on 2.5 year deals?).

We have strikers and midfielders. We even have goalies who are good keepers. What we need above all else are good CBs with good coaching. Then maybe strengthen DM / LB. 

Lots to get rid of (Martin, Bassong, Brady, Mulumbu, Dorrans, Naismith, etc.) and get some.yiung hungry players. THEN PLAY THEM!!! 

Maddison, Toffolo, Thompson, Morris, Josh, Canos to name a few. Maybe also utilise other players who always seem to contribute like Laffs and Pritchard. 

I would prioritise 2 CBs and 1 DM, plus a striker if we could find one. A poacher, but only if we start attacking the box otherwise it's a wasted purchase.

There isnt ONE player who was here signed pre Adams that should stay,  many signed in teh last two years also need to go.  To a man the older group have gotten far to comfortable and complacent to show any competitive edge

It's an interesting one because I have been saying for a long time that the squad needs a freshen up. But it is a strong squad of players for this league and you have to wonder if a different manager could put the fire back in the bellies. 

If you wanted to look at a shot of promotion this season I can't think of many realistic signings that would make the difference but a change of manager and some new manager bounce...that could get us there.

In my opinion, it is difficult to trust that the likes of AN and Ricky Martin can shape and develop the squad in a positive way going forward.

If I was the man in charge this transfer window I think I'd sell Brady and Naismith and use the money to bring in a quality centre back that can play alongside Klose and someone to back-up Olsson at left back which we won't have should Olsson leave. Maybe bring in a striker on loan. Despite an underwhelming first half of the season we should easily still be able to get £8-10m for Brady and £3-4m for Naismith. 

There's absolutely no excuse to get this transfer window wrong. The club are saying we'll have to sell before we can buy, we've got the players to sell, now let's buy wisely. Do so and we'll give ourselves a good chance.

I agree, give him away while we can to any taker.

Just because he is surely on wages which will cause us real issues in a couple of years if we don't get out of this league.

I'd sign Danny Graham as cheap 3rd striker on an 18 month deal so we can finally get rid of Kyle Lafferty. He's got 18 months left on his Blackburn contract, sure he'd be happy for us to take that contract over if it meant saving him from League 1 next season. 

15 goals in 36 for Blackburn. 

Don't want to see us spend substantial amounts of money on a striker when goals haven't been an issue for us, if we have any money it needs to go elsewhere. Just need somebody in so we can let Lafferty leave (for him and us!).

We need more players than we'll get in this window, I think it would be stupid for us to go and drop a load of money on Scott Hogan or somebody, I'd rather we signed a decent short term solution and spent that money on a quality centre back or defensive midfielder.

If we manage to shift Naismith then I'd love to see Conor Hourinhe from Barnsley, 6 months left on his deal so his fee won't be big. He's a deeper playmaker, and left footed, so a bit like Andrew Surman (but with more goals), would be a good addition to our squad and doesn't play as a second striker where we have Hoolahan and Pritchard already. He's also not a midget, we've got too many midgets. 

I like Lansbury too, but will probably cost too much and any serious outlay really needs to be on a centre back. 

I've got no ideas when it comes to centre backs to be honest. Harlee Dean at Brentford is highly rated and only 25, but he got ripped to shreds against us at Carrow Road didn't he?

Why do we keep doing this, I can't see Brentford paying anywhere near the £3m that we paid for him even if they get £8m for Hogan, they operate on pretty much a League 1 budget.

If we are going to speculate on young talent we should at least persevere with them, buying a 19 year and expecting an instant impact is stupid. 

We did the exact same with Ignasi Miquel who we purchased for £1.5m and then released with a pay off, and Daniel Ayala who we paid £800k for and sold for £350k (and has proven himself to be a very good player at this level!).

I suppose its possible that Canos just hates it in Norwich and being stuck so far from major cosmopolitan areas and its obvious he isn't going to settle, just seems to happen quite a lot where we invest money in kids and then write off the investment really quickly?!

See 2005 to 2009, that's what is happening. 

Looks like the players we want to shift are the ones on serious money. Would expect those 3 + Olsson to be right up there with our highest earners.

This is our new reality, we're a Championship side with some players on serious wages that will cause us serious problems if we get stuck with them. 

I assume that Mulumbu gets a pass in this window because we've only got to pay him for the next 5 months, bet he's on some serious dough too.

bit worried about that, as it looks like Brady will likely be off this window too, that basically leaves us with Whittaker (who is right footed) as our only viable left back, i'd like Toffolo to be given a go but is out on loan (anyone know when his loan ends?) but we need to bring someone in pretty sharpish

Doesn't buy much these days unless you have a manager who is good at plucking gems out of League 1, which hasn't been Alex Neil's style at all so far.

Suspect it may have been more about what we save on his weekly wage than the transfer fee though? 

Edit: Didn't realise Olsson was out of contract in the summer, player forced the transfer then?
