Worst transfer window of all time?

I guess they're basing it on us spending fair whack and the team regressing and Ricky.

I'm with you though, majority of those signings were good, easily one of our best summer windows.

Van Wolfswinkel was obviously a massive flop, but I agree, apart from that it wasn't that bad.

Redmond and Olsson cost a combined £5.5m, and have both turned out to be excellent signings, and who were both good that season despite our relegation, and have been crucial for us this season as well.

Leroy Fer we only signed for £4m, and sold for double that. Carlo Nash was only bought in as a 3rd choice keeper anyway so wasn't expected to play.

Hooper was also key for us this season, and scored quite a few important goals. If he does well this season and ends up helping keep us up then the £5.5m fee will be justified. Garrido for £1.5m was justified at the time because he was very good on loan the season before. Hasn't done much since but £1.5m is peanuts by todays standards.

Seems harsh to me when you consider that almost any of Liverpool's or Spurs' windows should be in that list, add o that Sunderland's big spending and it does look wide of the mark.

wrong to lump it all on anyone player,  Van persie and Buck teeth I'll bite ya Suaraz  would have struggled to score that season

Totally disagree. Before the season kicked off we were being widely praised by all pundits for the players we had brought in. Indeed most of them said we'd actually been the team which had done the best business that window, with people expecting big things of RvW.

The fact that we regressed was more due to ineffective tactics and poor management, ie poor use of resources, not the actual resources themselves.

RvW aside the players brought in were all good signings. Its also arguable that RvW might have done a bit better in a different system, though that still makes him a poor signing for this system if not a poor player.

Find it very surprising those transfers have been collectively labelled the 10th worst ever. Following this logic does this make Hughton the 10th worst manager ever?
