Bassong knocks on your door. Sheepishly he looks at his feet and says 'Im sorry boss, I want to play again. I know what I did was wrong, but really my behaviour was just out of loyalty to my Dad (CH). Forgive me?'

Would you accept his apology and integrate him back into the squad, especially as you cant really get rid of him for a while?

Or do you punch him in the face, ask him if he knows what that is and tell him he's burned his bridges and the only reason he's still here is because noone one wants him?

Where would you stand?

Of course I'd have him back! Whatever people may think of him, if he can contribute to the squad then why not?

His main crime here appears to be that he isn't the cleverest.

My main question, though, would be "Seb, how the hell did you know where I live?"

Yes, but he'd need to prove he's committed to the cause in training and whatever U21 games he's been playing as well.

There isn't much genuine sincerity in football unfortunately. But Bassong has been in the game long enough, that he should at least know how to feign it.

No. I'm sure we have brought in two covers in Hooiveld and Cuellar while the younger ones might be given time to show what they can achieve, If we had defended really badly maybe there could have be some kind of moratorium with Bassong but at the moment although the defending isn't brilliant, it is better than most other teams in this division which means we are at the top end of the table.

If whatever issues could be resolved then it'd have to be yes. We haven't got a better left sided centreback at the club.

The Turner/Bassong partnership showed itself to be about as strong as it gets for Norwich City, why wouldn't we want to return to that?

Without a doubt. He'd have to play his way back into the team, but do you think we would have been 2 down to Birmingham with him in the team? I think not, and you don't need me to tell you where those extra 2 points would put us now!

It would take the scenario in the OP for it to happen however, he needs to make the first move towards forgiveness!

So the quesiton is - if it seems to be as simple as Bassong apologizing to Adams - why hasnt he? Adams has consistently made noises that the situation is resolvable, but it would seem something needs to come from Seb and that it isnt. Odd

On his day he was a very capable and solid defender, far too casual at times, which I feel was born out of a lack of competition and he seemed guaranteed to start every week regardless of performance.

He has the ability so if he can sort out his attitude then I'd certainly have him back in the squad.

My guess is that its now beyond the point of return, which is a huge shame. Bassong was exceptional in his first season with us, and whilst inconsistent last season, not as bad as some make out, in what was a team of under performers. He is a class act and it is such a shame for the club Bassong that he is not in consideration......that said, happens in football all the time......look at Villa last season , and now a couple of players are back in the fold and regulars.

I really do wonder where Bassong is at, at the moment. Doesnt seem upset he's out the team. Doesnt seem to be keen for a move. No noise at all from a situation which would normally cause all sorts of aggro. Only logical to conclude he doesnt care. Disillusioned with football?

Of course. Look at Wes Hoolahan. He was desperate to leave in January, a few months later he's signing a new contract. He was our best player by a mile 2 seasons ago, if he can even come close to replicating that sort of form in the Championship he'd be a great asset.

I think if Bassong was gonna do it he would've done it by now, rather than miss the opening 10 games or so of the season.

I believe that there was far more to this than the alleged comment. Suggestions of the both poor attitude and disruptive behaviour indicate that a "sorry gaffer" is unlikely to suffice.

I'd have him back in an absolute shot if him and Neil could work it out. He's still at least the 2nd best, if not the best CB at the club.

Lot going on- no doubt -that we know nothing about ! Would I have him back- no! not after this length of time- We would all love to be paid for doing nothing - It might not be his fault  --but still being paid- !! Hughton in line for a few posts- Fulham- !!  Can not rely on him taking Seb !

As I see it- have to rely on D M- as he wont want someone draining all revenue    Player wise -used to being without him- and heard that sulking is known to him,

That may be, but much of last year's failure was down to to players who were not committed to the cause and IMO, Seb was the foremost of those. His only commitment was to Hughton, it seems. So a no from me.

I have to say I agree with this. Spurs didn't pay £8m for him because he was rubbish, but I can't imagine Adams would have signed Cuellar, Hooiveld AND Miquel if there was any hope of Bassong playing for us again. If he's a disruptive influence, he can rot for all I care - if he really wanted to wear the shirt it would've been resolved one way or another by now. His career is on a continuing downward spiral, and if he doesn't want to save it then we'll pay his mercenary money until he f**ks off or we are forced to pay him off. No player is bigger than the club.

I don't quite understand why the club can't tell him he has broken his contract and he can pack his bags and find a new employer. Footballers argue they want to be treated like everyone else with their employment rights yet they refuse to play as they should and then demand paying off.
