Newcastle and Crystal Palace apparently interested and price stated as £10m (according to the red tops).

Very good player and still only 23 (even if it feels like he's been around forever and looks 35).

Centre midfield is a bit crowded, but probably better than anybody we already have?

I'm not sure he's actually any better than what we have here already and for £10m you need some serious upgrade to what we have, just not sure thats what we'd get out of him, sure he'd be a good member of the squad but is he really any better than the likes of Howson or Vadis?

I think he is better than anything we have in midfield at the moment. And I think he is worth his place in the England squad ahead of Carrick. However, he has been playing for teams who enjoy possession football and he manages to be able to link in with those midfields and spray his passes around. 

I don't know whether he would fit into our scheme of things. We would be utilising him differently from his preferred role. And he may not be as effective.

I think he could quite easily be better than our current central midfielders;  vadis is still only emerging but has shown inconsistent ability,  and howson is better than VOO (hence in the team) but I feel that Shelvey would be an improvement.   Wages may be an issue.   

Whether that £10m is best spent on the strongest part of our team than defence or attack is another matter - if we have the cash I would say yes if the manager was interested.

Shelvey is a bit poor team player and is kind a player whose weak points will end up costing lot of points if players around him are not suitable.

Anyway he could be useful CAM option. Has goal in him and decent passer with good physical presence. Dont know if he is worth the price with his high wages, but would at least give more defencive option for Hoolahan and certainly better at ball than rest of our midfielders.

Wouldnt be against him, but dont know if he fits AN gameplan and if he is used without two other central midfielders I think he is more liability than asset.

The thing which worries me is perhaps his attitude, does he feel that he is too good to be in a relegation scrap? 

After his argument with some fans on the pitch and now being linked with an exit, is he like a rat jumping a sinking ship? Looks like he's the first to jump, most at least give it until the end of the season before bailing?

£10m doesn't sound expensive for a 23 year old England international in a market where a 29 year old Steven Naismith is linked with an £8m move, and an £8m bid for Lewis Grabban is rejected.

Although as it happens, I find it difficult to believe that the fee for Naismith will actually be £8m.

Would be an amazing signing if Neil could get him working for the team but I don't think we'll be able to match wages offered by others.

Transfers are all addons and fees based on performance. Wouldn't be surprised if a large part of that fee was reliant on us staying in the division. Of course, if we stay up, 8m is pocket change.

I know a couple of Swansea fans off another forum and they both want him to leave because his attitude apparently stinks, and his performances have been poor for months now. Plus we already have plenty of good options in centre midfield and as others have said, for £10m he needs to be a serious upgrade on what we already have, and based on Swansea fan reviews he's just not.

its clear that swansea are a club in disarray at the moment - great news for us all round - but it does explain why their players,  incl shelvey,  are underperforming.   Judge him on what he has shown before these last 4 months - thats what we would be looking to buy once rejuvenated - not the current lacking in confidence / demotivated whatever version.

Good player and I wanted us to get him before he went to Swansea but other positions take priority.

As for Swansea... appointing Curtis was like us appointing Adams (or Gunn).

according to sky sports Newcastle have agreed a £12m fee, cant see us matching that nor would i want us to, much more important areas of the team to strengthen for that sort of money

Glad it's not us tbh, think he's badly over-rated, appears to have a real attitude problem (and not just for the last few months) and at 12mil, I'd MUCH rather the money went towards a new striker and CB.
