Your First Game

Seeing the "Fan Since" option on profiles got me to thinking that it'd be interesting to see where and how everyone's journey supporting City got started. I have my Stepdad to thank as my actual Dad became far too disillusioned with football by the time I was old enough to want to go. I think somewhere in 1997 I'd started watching Match Of The Day early on a Sunday morning and had started to lean towards Manchester United (the horror) so was duly dragged to Carrow Road to have it stamped out of me.

I must have been a good luck charm because we ended a 3 month or so winless run that day and smashed Huddersfield 5-0. I can't pretend I remember a great deal about the day, but I do remember that Erik Fuglestad scored the last goal as the name stuck with me for being so unusual. I was less thrilled about a marathon (for a 7 year old) walk back to The Cottage pub afterwards, and wondered why adults would walk so far for beer. If only I knew.

You'd think it were a good thing to have your first game be a 5-0 win, but I distinctly remember expecting that every time and was thoroughly disappointed when I saw us lose to both Port Vale and Oxford Utd the following year. I also remember the long journey to Hillsborough to watch us lose 4-1 in the FA Cup in 1999, and Norwich have been breaking my heart ever since.

Was just brought up with it being part of the weekly routine and family, couldn't possibly put a date on it... It's 'in' me, so to speak.  Would love to know the first game i attended but would be too young to recall it.

I guess one of my most youngest and vivid memories outside of the milk cup final was going on a school trip there in the 80's, our PE teacher was a West Ham fan and somehow wangled it to take a group (10 or so) up there in a small minibus if we biked to meet him... He pulled over in a lay by on the way there and tou.. Oh, how silly of me, no we didn't, he was a very nice man, and if he did touch any of us he would probably have threaten us to the point where we'd even be too afraid to mention or look at a lay by deep in to our adult lives.

No, seriously... I shouldn't joke about stuff like that, he was a top guy, massive West Ham fan and clearly used us to get himself at the match for free with some sneaky tactics.  I remember us acting well and truly like little yobs and he was quite fine with it, we were moving up through the levels of which swear words we could get away with in front of a teacher... We went 2-0 up and we were giving him so much hassle, he just lost it and went mental at us... then he went REALLY quiet.  

Drive home was quite fast round the back roads and filled with silence.  All i can remember on the drive home is staring at the big pink and white nougat i got from the seller who walked pitch side before kick off,  feeling sick at thought of eating it, and how happy i felt when buying it - now it was the focus point of my worry and sadness!  .... and then i felt really dozy, woke up in a field and he was chainsawing thro... lol i joke again, can't help it.

August 1983, I was 8 and watched Liverpool beat us 1 nil. I stood on a milk crate near the front of the River End, happy days!

West Ham v Man City in 1987, we won 2-0 

First Norwich game was 2004-05 when I got my season ticket for the last 4 games and was Man Utd when we won 2-0 Ashton and Mckenzie.

Its probably a good thing that you didn’t go to the next Carrow Road fixture a fortnight later as that was also a 5-0 City win, against Swindon. [/SIZE]

[SIZE=medium]My first match was February 22nd[/SIZE] 1992 vs Liverpool when I was taken by my Liverpool supporting friends when I was 7. Without any obvious City links in my family I was also there to see Liverpool however after the match I made the momentous decision to support the team based in the City I was born as they are clearly superior. Apparently it is regarded as something of a classic performance.

Mine was 1978, to see us draw with West Brom 1-1. I was 4 years old and I can remember reading the back of the programme and looking at the names. I seem to remember that we played Martin Peters, Kevin Reeves, Justin Fashanu, and I think Kevin Keelan. My memory is poor as I was so young. I think Martin Chivers was also playing. I may be misremembering the players with the passage of time but I don't think I am.

Sept '71 , went to CR with my older brother to see Charlie George, who was my hero( i was nine) after his FA cup final goal, went in an Arsenal supporter, City won 3-1 or 3-2, came out a Canaries Fan, never looked back. Was there when Man u wrecked and burnt the Barclay, was there for called off league cup match v Chelsea due to fog. Met Charlie George at the Emirates last year after winning VIP weekend on the radio for the Arse v City game, told him how it all went for me so many years ago, he said i was right to support my local Team and was full of praise for Norwich as a club, in fact was rather scathing of the Elitist  attitude of many Gunners.

I do wish I didn't ruin my memory partaking in, lets call them "extra curricular activities", as a teenager. Can barley remember my own name sometimes. However I do remember going to one of the open days as a Junior Canary and meeting players like Efan Ekoku (sp??) and Ruel Fox. had a ball signed by most of the squad of that year, must have been around '93 but over the years of being stored in the garage its pretty shoddy now.

With no attachments to Norwich at all and my whole immediate family, going back 2-3 generations, being London/Berkshire bred I'm actually quite fortunate to be a Norwich fan. My dad was bought up a Spurs fan and as a very young lad went to a Tottenham v Norwich game and was converted on the spot. Now other than my brother who was a glory hunter and chose Liverpool, we are a Norwich family thru and thru!

First game I was taken to was in 1969 against Hull, we won 2-1 - vaguely remember that  Curran may have scored both goals, one a penalty,  but might be mistaken.

Only taken to evening games, the second game I was taken to was the 6-0 win versus Birmingham in 1970.  That was enough to get me hooked!

I cant remember the year but I know it was against Tottenham and Gascoigne & Linekar were playing for them. My Grandad took me to the match as he was a big spurs fan, I didn't really like football then and if I had stayed living in London maybe i would have also been a spurs fan???? But then I would miss out on the pain and joy of being a Norwich fan OTBC

It was March 1963 we played Newcastle in the Cup and won 5-0 on a Wednesday night and the Saturday either before or after we played Stoke and won 6-0.

Which game came first I cannot recall but hey what 2 crackers to start me watching City.
