Crazy scenes after the game

If it is true that McNally voted against the appointment of Adams then I genuinely fear for our club.

I'd always hoped that the board had delegated decisions like this to McNally and that he'd been brought in because of his prior experience of the football world.

The idea that the likes of Stephen Fry can place the vote which swings it away from McNally, then the problems start at the very top of our club.

I thought that McNally and Bowkett parachuted into our club and forced the sacking of Gunn, and were then the driving force behind appointing Lambert (a man that McNally already knew, in consultation with Martin O'Neill, another man that McNally already knew!).

If it is true that McNally had much different ideas and was vetoed by Delia, MWJ, Foulger, & Fry, then I fear we will soon be back in the dark days again. Never before have I said this, but if this is true, then it is time for a change of ownership. Clearly the old guard haven't learnt anything at all from their past mistakes and their series of disastrous managerial appointments.

If I had to take a punt on who McNally wanted, then I'd guess Neil Lennon. Who incidentally has led an average Bolton side to 16 points in his first 8 games (the 2 points a game that Adams said was our target).

For what it's worth, I don't think that there's any truth in the "fact" that McNally voted against the appointment of Adams.

Since when does a dad have to go to a stag do?

Sorry but you're just looking for an excuse to stick the boot in. If he's close to his son, why wouldn't he go? He doesn't have to plan his life around what suits you.

By that I presume you mean that McNally may be telling people that to deflect attention away from himself, but that it may not be the truth?

I know a few people who have had their dad on their stag do.

Some people have the sort of relationship where they can get hammered with their dads, and others have the sort where they wouldn't even tell their dad that they ever get hammered.

I very much respect the opinion of the poster who said this, he is someone I count as a friend. And he isn't the sort to throw something like that out there, if it wasn't true.

I must admit it's the first time I have heard this, I am aware who the poster is although I don't know him, I would be confident that of all the posters on here he is likely to be one in the know.

If there was a vote ( and I personally can't confirm that) it doesn't surprise me that McNally voted against, but I have to say that it's a great dissapoinment that his advice has been ignored.

It wasn't so much a case of voting against Adams, more a case of when the first choice dithered, they had to look at the alternative options. Adams clearly wasn't DMcN's first choice.

Surely the fans can remember the "appointment within a week" suggestion and then the slight delay?

I think Mr Tan had a part to play in that

We'll never know Andy, although the revelations certainly surfaced much later.

All I've heard is that Malky dithered, hence the delay.

Certainly recall that Gazza and it seems to indicate that Adams wasn't first choice.

What's being suggested here though is that he was appointed after McNally had indicated by way of a vote that he was not in favour of the appointment, now if that is true, then I find it concerning, I imagine it wouldn't have gone down too well with McNally either.

There wouldn't have been a vote with such a small group making the decision. They would have discussed the options and made a decision. They are the only ones who will ever know what was discussed. It's always been obvious that Adams wasn't the first choice. If Malky dithered they should have gone for Lennon, who had made it clear he wanted the job. You would have thought McNally would have been in favour of Lennon but clearly he didn't have the support of the rest of the board.

What do people think we have on offer that would attract the "right" manager?

I don't mean one after a pension or an ego trip but a sensible football man who has fresh ideas and a commitment to the right kind of football.

I have my own ideas but some are based on living 400 miles away and not living and breathing NCFC at close quarters. In fact, many of us exiles may be out of touch.

I am thinking of a youngish guy. preferably British but common sense says not a sticking point. Hopefully a successful career probably including international caps. An ability to coach and I don't just mean having the exams but being able to get the players to change and adapt where necessary and become better players. And hopefully a lot of contacts within the game. I don't mind that he might not have been at the helm of a club before. It's desirable I suppose but not absolutely crucial.

But what will we be offering someone with a CV like that?

Lennon was still contracted to Celtic when the selection process started. He actually resigned the same day Adams was appointed. He also wasn't immediately available due to World Cup TV commitments.

The rumour is he wasn't considered suitable for the job

I have Board experience but not in this sort of organisation. From my personal experience I would expect the Board to be persuaded by the opinion, advice and recommendation of the CEO.

If McNally had made it clear to the Board that he wasn't in favour of Adams then I would have expected his view to carry significant weight.

Yes I also would expect the CEO to guide the board. Possibly he did with the first choice candidate, but either he did not want the job, want it on the terms offered or the negotiations failed. There could even have been a second candidate where the process similarly stalled. This would then have left the with Adams - a candidate where not only had the CEO's advice been that he should be shortlisted but a candidate which the CEO had publicly stated on more than one occasion was a credible candidate.

So either an enormous UTurn is done on the credible candidate statement, or the post is offered to Neil Adams as a reasonable option from the due process they have followed. So I can see that he would not have been the CEO's or for that matter the board's first choice but appointed on a split vote - No.

A reasonable and very possible scenario Sussex.

I suppose the question it poses is why back yourself into a corner with the "credible candidate" story?

I don't think the public statement would have left them with no option if McNally genuinely believed Neal was not the right man for the job.

Was the Adams appointment based on Joe Royle being part of the team? I forget the chronological order but surely Adams must have contacted Royle before and asked him if he would be part of a team that he could present to the board as one that had the ideas and the experience as well as the local connection?

Isn't it true though that we originally offered Mackay the job, however he rejected it due to the fact he wanted more money? That would explain why McNally had to go with Adams even if he didn't really want him.
