I am not on Twitter but have seen some of the replies he has had, which are quite shocking really. Players really need some guidance or code on how to use social media correctly or not at all.
I remember Graeam Souness once saying when playing for Sampodoria how after a game, which they had won, he got a bottle of beer to drink on the journey home. The manager took it off him and after Souness protested, the manager asked him, why, with the privileged lifestyle he lived, with the adoration he received and the future he had, he going go without a beer?It seems most would like our players to be robots. When did football fans get so delicate? Quite happy to give people dogs abuse but can't accept a player saying he's disappointed to receive it given his loyal service (quite right he is too). You say it has suited him to be here and he hasn't done it out of the kindness of his heart, but he's had offers to be elsewhere and as he told one brainless turd on Twitter who accused him of not caring and only being here for the money - if it was a case of being here for the £££, he'd have left years ago. Genuinely cannot believe how quick we are to turn on him for speaking his mind.
As long as he accepts then repercussions then. Like someone having at go at him. He's just a person, that happens to be good at football. Social media is now a big part of the world and there's nothing wrong with him having it.
Why is the guy a worm? If he has been really rude to him or officials of the club, then, yes, he's a worm. But if he was merely calling into question Ruddy's commitment at the moment and suggesting money was his only commitment, then that is a fair question to ask a professional sportsman.Yeah, but that still doesn't mean he can't argue the toss with some little worm that suggests he's only here for the money.
I think we will have to agree to disagree on on our views of what being professional means. Why? Nothing happened. The world hasn't ended. I'm glad he did it. Might make that bloke think twice before being such a *bleep*next time.
Fair enough but perhaps I see it differently because I have a professional code I have to abide by so I would react differently. I may want to react in a way like Ruddy did and can understand it but it wouldnt be my way of dealing with it. It depends on how you class a professional and as players do not have codes of conduct that could mean they get suspended, cautioned or get struck off the register so they cannot practise, they can get away with reacting like they do.I agree with Splutcho on this one Surgeryman. Social media allows some people to be abusive in a way they would never do in person. Similarly the fan booing. Whether worm is the right word, I can see why it is used. Abuse given without any argument to back it up is simply naked abuse, IMO.
Still go a lot to do though. Focus on getting your game back John, don't use social media, stick to hand gestures like in the photo and all will be well.![]()
