Rumours and speculation

No way, far too unproven. Wouldn't have any complaints though if we bought him to be 3rd choice behind Jerome and another striker who we bring in as well.

Would love Assombalonga here tbh, would go as far as to say I'd be happy if we spent £15m on him.

That's what I meant really, 3rd choice and on loan.

Think I'd prefer him to Bamford on a season long loan.

It would make sense to sign one permanent and one on loan, then if we go up we upgrade the player in the loan spot unless they really impress.

Another ship that has sailed is Patrick Bamford, who has joined Burnley on a season long loan.

Our list is getting thinner and thinner.

Down to 499 names.

Actually it's still probably 500 as Neil almost certainly didn't want Bamford.

It does look like another missed opportunity heading our way. Fifth league game of the season tomorrow and still no striker.

Well, except for Jerome who has scored 2 goals in 4 games. AN said this morning that the Oliveira deal is 75% done, so he must be confident of it happening then. As he has also said that he's looking for 2 strikers, the most likely other rumour is Enner Valencia, who West Ham are willing to let leave (possibly on loan) once they sign a new striker, which they are about to do in the form of Simone Zasa from Juve. Valencia is described as an Ecuadorian international "jet-heeled" striker with a powerful shot as well. His goal-scoring record is uneven, but at 5'8" he'd provide another option. Early days on this one, but it could happen as a loan deal (West Ham paid £12m for him). Stephano Okaka, who has also been mentioned, seems more unlikely to me because he'd be yet another in the number 9 striker mold and therefore too similar to Jerome and Oliveira.

Valencia does look sharp and we do need an injection of pace. The first five yards are so important for a striker.

Well neither of those seem likely. Even though HITC got this Benfica player right but that's almost certainly a first and a last.

Aston Villa have bid for Assombalonga, and both Hull look close to signing Kodjia.

If Villa get Assombalonga to add to McCormack I will be monumentally p*ssed off.

I think Nelson Oliveira could be a very good signing, but we do need another striker in addition to that. His goalscoring record doesn't look amazing but its mostly in leagues far superior to the one we now find ourselves in.

It doesn't make any sense to be pessimistic about the Oliveira signing on one hand, while being jealous about the likes of Vydra on the other (seen comments by some other Norwich fans).

Vydra is actually coming off of the back of a terrible season where he scored 3 goals in 31 league games in this division,

Nigel Pearson doesn't seem to fancy Chris Martin, he has been starting Darren Bent over him, I'd actually be reasonably happy if Chris Martin was our other striker signing. Can't argue with 52 goals in 121 games for Derby over the past three seasons, and Pearson is potentially making a big mistake swapping out Martin with Vydra.

Vydra is seen as a top signing because he has scored 20 league goals and 16 league goals in two separate seasons for Watford in this division, but actually Chris Martin has also had a 20 goal season and an 18 goal season in this division over the past few years.

If we went and spent £5m on Chris Martin I'd be happy with that. It would leave us (if we go up) with three strikers (Jerome, Oliveira, Martin) who are unlikely to score enough in the Premier League and so one would have to become a casualty if we went up, but that's no biggie, Middlesbrough had no problem relegating Rhodes to 4th choice almost immediately.

£5m for Chris Martin could be the bargain signing of the season in this league.

I'd take Gestede from Villa to be honest, clearly not wanted and now probably 4th in their pecking order. Offers us something completely different to what we have and was excellent for Blackburn the year before last.

Lets all laugh at Ipswich by the way, sell Daryl Murphy their best attacking player and sign Leon Best

This summer is turning out to be a bit of a shambles again.

I sincerely hope Oliveira turns out to be a top striker in this division and bangs in 20+ and helps us to promotion.

But he wasn't the number one or even two target was he? And yes I know you have to have contingency plans and are sometimes caught in a chain of tranfers but despite the promises of doing business early we will not be seeing any of our outfield signings playing until September. And surely McGovern is only playing because of injury. Over 10% of the season gone.

Everything at the moment is predictable. From the pre match promise of attacking football to the post match we didn't do the basics to the we are working hard to bring new players in.

I am hoping that I will be shocked at the end of the window and some serious negotiations and bargaining has taken place and another couple of players will come in.

I expect there might be a departure or two (still not over the shock of Bradley going last year) and probably expect Brady and possibly Klose to go along with some being loaned out.

And then we will just have to get on with it and AN will have to admit this is his team and he is going to have to persuade them to perform.

Sunderland are apparently in talks with us over signing John Ruddy.

Not sure what to make of that tbh.

Naismith ok with me;   ruddy too only if we can get a good first choice replacement in.

Has Moyes managed anyone else in our squad for a job lot deal?

Would be delighted to be honest if Naismith went. If this was earlier in the window I'd be fine with Ruddy as well, but I don't think we'd be able to get a replacement in in time and I'm not sure about McGovern as first choice for the whole season. If we have a replacement lined up though I'd be fine with Ruddy leaving. £1m is an insult though :D .

Also, Toffolo has gone on loan to Scunthorpe. Clearly we don't think we're going to lose Olsson or Brady.
