Right, lets get this Premier league show on the road!

Who starts at CB with Godfrey? Who is between the sticks? Does Patrick Roberts start? Is Pukki fully fit? Will Cantwell get a start?

I have no answers, I am literally all at sea :p

Cannot f*cking wait for this.

Team I think Farke will probably go for:

Krul
Aarons Klose Godfrey Lewis
Trybull McLean
Buendia Stiepermann Hernandez
Pukki

Subs: Fahrmann, Hanley, Vrancic, Leitner, Cantwell, Roberts, Drmic
If Vrancic was fully fit I would've liked to have seen him alongside Trybull, but obviously with him not fit enough to start it's a toss up between Leitner and McLean, and I think Farke prefers McLean. He's probably better defensively so away at Anfield it probably makes more sense to play him. I prefer Leitner as a player and both of them have been good in pre-season, but I'd be happy enough to see McLean for this one. A couple of weeks ago as well I probably would've said Fahrmann over Krul, but Krul has looked far more convincing in pre-season and overall even though he was arguably our weak link at times last season he did enough to earn a chance. As for the subs, I imagine Amadou won't be ready yet (assuming he signs),and Byram may be on the bench in place of Cantwell, though he has looked superb recently and played a lot of minutes so I reckon he'll probably be in the squad. No place unsurprisingly for Srbeny, Heise or Idah, and Tettey and Zimbo are obviously injured.

To be honest, there's a very good chance we could be thrashed. All I want to see here is us hold our own and put in a performance to be proud of, and showcase to all the 'experts' out there that we're not just going to be the whipping boys this season. Even if we end up losing in those circumstances there will still be far more positives than negatives to take. If we can get some sort of result though it'd be amazing. Mane potentially out injured and half an eye on the European super cup a few days later, you never know!

I just hope the game doesn't verge on some sort of controversial VAR decision or something, that would definitely leave a bad taste in the mouth. All in all though I just can't watch us in the Premier League again :D

I'm not sure how fit Klose is this week?
I just remember the way we played with Leitner, emi, onel, Lewis and Aarons in 2nd half v Toulouse.
We cant play like that when mo is left out. Toulouse didn't pose a threat to our defence, unlike the first half when McLean played.
I know liverpool isn't Toulouse, but were not expecting to win this game, it's a free hit, why not play our best team and see where that takes us.

Why not indeed.............we're not expecting anything much anyway, so why not show what we've got? OTBC.

not to be a negative nancy, but going there and just playing it how we normally do sounds great on paper, not so great if you go and lose 5-0 on the opening day though, personally I'd be a bit more cautious

Krul
Aarons Klose Godfrey Lewis
Trybull
McLean-----------Leitner
Buendia--------------------------------------Hernandez
Pukki

been having a look at the odds for the game, we're 18/1 for the win, and 9/2 for a win or draw, also Pukki is 16/1 for the 1st or last goalscorer, thats gotta be worth a couple of quid, also it's 2/1 for there to be a penalty in the match, being the first premier league game with VAR surely that's a given especially as it's a newly promoted side away to the champions league winners

Cant remember this much excitement before the first game last season.
Whatever the result tonight, it shouldn't change our belief that we will stay up and even flourish in the Premier League this year.
We have to remind ourselves that many teams who avoided relegation last season got spanked a few times during the year. Even 'big' clubs lose, sometimes a couple in a row.

My prediction for tonight?
I'm hoping Farke will be brave enough to play Leitner, Emi and Onel together, at least then we will give Lfc something to think about. Maybe 1-1 or even sneak a
2-1 shock.
If we try to defend and park the bus, I fear we will get spanked.

I'm hoping that we will launch it at the Pool defenders getting several penalties from the ball hitting their arms.! ;)

that should be our tactic every week, I'd find it hilarious and it would never get old, just a shame we cant score a penalty to save our lives

actually thought we played pretty well there particuarly in the first half, it was just our defending and finishing was poor, everything else in between was good, you'd like to think if we tighten things up and play with the same attacking intent we should be able to get a good result against Newcastle

Liverpool weren't at their best but they are plenty capable of putting 3 or 4 goals past any team in the world. We gave them a game and could have had a couple more goals out of it than we did - but so could they.

On that showing alone, I thought Hanley and McLean looked out of their depth. All the others looked like they can operate at this level.
