I just looked at the league table, I didn't realise Derby were in such trouble.

What they need is real leaders to drag them out of trouble.

So they bring in a shot to pieces pisshead, sort of feel sorry for them tbh.

If you just want a defender to break up attacks and clear the lines he’s perfectly adequate, will need to be paired with somebody young and quick though. As long as they’re not expecting him to play any tippy tappy nonsense he’ll be fine

Despite the negative view of him amongst supporters, his positive influence on the dressing room as a “strong character” has been mentioned a few times recently by players and staff. For a team struggling near the bottom that could be as valuable as skill on the pitch. Let’s hope it doesn’t help Derby in the next game.

I don't disagree with that at all, but he certainly has baggage unfortunately. If he is genuinely good for the team then you can turn a blind eye to his other character flaws, such as the boozing and abusing fans on social media :p

To be honest there are plenty of people on social media that deserve abuse. They’re happy to dish it out but cry when somebody gives it back (and I may be wrong but I thought Duffy was defending the other players in the team when he had his online spat).

Oh yeah, obviously it didn't bother me in the slightest. And yeah, fair play for giving it back. It was just funny seeing a current player getting stuck in like that!

Calling that chap a gimp was probably the best thing he did under our employ.

Personally I think he should have been sacked for drink driving a few days before play off game though.

Why? How did him losing his driving license affect his ability to do his job on a Saturday?

That's another debate, I do have an opinion on that, but this time I was specifically referencing the fact that the incident happened in the run up to a play-off semi final.

When players should have been ensuring that they were mentally and physically prepared for what for many of them was one of the most important games of their careers, one of our most experienced players and allegedly highest earner was getting absolutely rat arsed in a pub all afternoon after training on a Monday. What a great example to set our younger players. And what a distraction to preparations too.

The fact that drink driving is itself morally reprehensible and any potential victim of that would likely have been a Norfolk person and related to somebody who goes and pays money to watch him play is a separate point, although it is a view I hold.

Baring in mind that the average person has to drink 6 to 8 pints to end up testing at three times over the legal limit and that Shane Duffy as a 6ft 4" professional athlete with a long track record of heavy drinking would probably need to drink more than that, it wasn't exactly a borderline thing was it, neither was it his first drink driving conviction so couldn't be chalked off as an uncharacteristic moment of madness but rather a measure of the mans morals (or lack of). Unfortunately Stuart Webber abandoned his "no dickhead" policy when signing players and signed a dickhead.

We’ll agree to disagree on that one I think. I’ve never really bought into the whole model professional thing to be honest. As long as the player does enough on a Saturday I don’t really care what he gets up to in between. If his drinking affects his performance then he won’t get picked, but despite being a colossal pisshead Duffy was arguably our most consistent defender.
He was punished by the courts for his drink driving (whether we believe that punishment for the crime is enough is irrelevant, that’s a matter for parliament to decide) so as far as I’m concerned that should be the end of it

Not sure what you mean by this point to be honest as he didn't receive the maximum sentence, he could have been given 6 months in prison.

Of course the real story is that he clearly wasn't fit enough to be in control of his vehicle and if he had struck a pedestrian rather than a stationary car his maximum sentence could have been life imprisonment.
