Anyone seen much of his video 'interview' for the Scum?
Anglian News did a bit on it and made a big point that they were 90 million in debt to Evans. Sounded like he was begging for supporters to go the games!
Hilarious

Haven't actually seen it, but it sounded like your standard PR kinda speech really. If you care to wander over to TWTD, reception from the Ipswich fans seems a bit mixed.

A lot of them can't grasp the concept that Evans isn't bankrolling them, he is just lending them money, and likely charging them interest too. He wants to make going to Poorman road fun again. Good luck with that.

He said about transfers, 'make a few select additions' talking about the new manager having to stick to same budgets as past few years.

So the new manager will get a couple of million to spend, and that'll be it. Nothing much will change. They are going to miss Mick, they really are.

Had this graphic some skivvy has worked on for Anglia, £30 million debt when Evans bought them, gone up to £90 million.
He kept referring to promotion too, fantastic!

The whole thing is really some kind of asset stripping (I don't think they own anything any more, he bought the training ground and rents it back to them?) and tax avoidance scheme. His name has been linked with a few dodgy things over the years, specifically ticket touting.

There but for the grace of God go us...

Next season's gonna be funny, we can't get any worse yet they surely can't get better. The McCarthy pragmatism will be gone and their new manager will be trying to actually play football with the thugs they have there. Eieieio Down the football league they go.

Only manager I can think of who would be a good appointment for them is Warburton.

I'd even be a little bit jealous.

Anybody else and their down within 2 years.

I dont think theres much to it in terms of the tax avoidance stuff. Sure he can offset a little bit against other losses / profits but it'll be minimal compared to the 6 million or so he puts in every year.

To be fair, they can't be too critical of him because without him covering that 6m every year they would already be totally fucked!

Most of them money he puts in seems to go back to him in loan interest payments.

I think he just took a gamble on trying to own a Premier League side on the cheap... which he would have flipped for a profit, or benefitted from the shirt sponsorship + made a few quid selling stadium naming rights like Mark Ashley.

Backfired but he's content running the club at somewhere near breakeven. The debt that Ipswich owe him is record as an asset on his balance sheet, difference between interest payments and amount he has to loan to cover them is negligible and probably covered by what he gains plastering his name everywhere. May cost his business a low seven figure sum per year, but for that he gets to keep a £90m debt on his balance sheet as an 'asset', it only gets written off when you can't collect.... which of course he can, because he's subsidising the interest payments.

Ipswich fans are stupid if they think he's ever going to start bankrolling a promotion push though.

As for the interview though... embarrassing how many Ipswich fans have swallowed the canned answers to questions he invented, expected to hear the clang of a clapperboard and somebody at the back shout "cut".

To Marcus Evans the club is just the small poolside bar which doesn't break a profit.... in the middle of a huge resort complex which makes him a fortune. You'll keep the bar, because you think its add something to your business... but you aren't going to completely renovate it, because you'd just be throwing good money after bad and you'd be much better off building a few new duplexes.

Georgy Bingham was interviewed about Evans efforts and to be fair to her, she did whinge about the set up of the 'interview', that no journos there asking proper questions.
Cringeworthy it was!

If they want to start playing proper football they’re going to have to overhaul the squad, which is going to be a bit difficult with a couple of million quid :)

Hold fire lads..... Alan Brazil just said Sol Campbell! I kid you not, yes, the greatest brain in football!

Obviously he would be in a position to know better than most?
It might suit Evans to have a inexperienced manager, he's so desperate for a job he will agree to anything Evans suggests.
If it's true - they really are a gift that keeps on giving!
