Wow, not bad :D Give me a shoutout.

Without sounding rude, why is he interviewing you?

They have been doing a "Canaries around the world" segment and this time it's the Republic of Texas.

I'll likely be asked "how" I follow the team.  I'll mention forums as one area but I probably won't get too specific other than to say some are better than others...

Yeah, and then NR8 6GZ (Drayton, about half an hour from Carrow Road) the next week.

Well that was fun.  Didn't get any shout outs in, the discussion was rather well directed (not a bad thing since I can and will ramble on if given the chance).  I got the sense they wanted a bit of cartoon/stereotypical Texas reference thrown in with the "what's out my window" question, but it took me a second to catch their drift.  All in all I think it was a good call.

So what is outside your window ? ;)
I was actually looking out my home office window when he asked that, and I took the question literally.  The grass is brown because of the drought we've had the last couple of years and also because Bermuda and St. Augustine grass both turn brown after the first hard freeze, and ours was about ten days ago (there's six feet of snow in Buffalo but normally I'd still be mowing the lawn this late in the year).  We also have a really clear blue sky right now (no clouds, no dust, no haze).  They were looking for the stereotyical Texas... longhorn cattle, horses, cowboys, and drilling rigs.  I have all of this within a mile of me.  I have friends who pull through drive-in restaurants on their horse.  My daily commute takes me through the Stockyards which features Billy Bob's and a cattle drive down Exchange Ave. twice daily.  I see cactus and wild animals ranging from deer to raccoons, feral hogs, buzzards, turkeys possums, armadillos, skunks, coyotes, bobcats, and mountain lions on a nearly daily basis (and not just as roadkill).  I'll go to our two Boy Scout ranches an hour away and see/hear rattlesnakes galore and after a good rain find tarantulas with a leg span as wide as your open and extended hand.  I've seen wild prairie fires, hail the size of baseballs, and more tornadoes than I can count... But for as much as I love to romanticize all that, when they asked the question my Asperger's kicked in and I took them literally.

I did chuckle at their lack of geographic perspective.  Fort Worth is in the same metro as Dallas but we're an hour apart by road or train and a million miles apart culturally.  Dallas still has some of the oil guys but it's all corporate and envisions itself as an East Coast or Chicago type city, whereas Fort Worth embraces its Western/cowboy roots.  Austin is 200 miles SSW.  It's 800 miles E-W from Texarkana to El Paso and about the same N-S from Dalhart in the NW corner of the Panhandle to Brownsville in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.  We're a big country state.

After the show I did send Rob Butler a link to my somewhat infamous non-call from my hockey days.  I'm not real proud of it (alcohol was involved but I was more sober by the third period when it happened than I was after stepping off the team bus after the long drive to San Antonio), but my hockey friends think it's hilarious of it but it is out there if you can find it.

The "GOBBLE GOBBLE" threw me too.  Rob and I had traded some tweets back and forth in the morning sorting out a couple details, and I said it then.  I came reaaaaaaally close to coming back with "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly,"  But I doubt anyone over there is familiar with the punchline from the classic Thanksgiving episode of the sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati," so I let it go.  Similarly, I didn't describe my Thanksgiving dinner as "toast, preztel sticks, popcorn, and jelly beans" since I doubt y'all would pick up on the Peanuts reference.

I remember seeing wild turkeys in Oregon when I was over there. They're amazingly skinny compared to the ones we eat. More like Road Runner!

Oh I don't know... turkeys get pretty good sized. We have roadrunners too and they've relatively small. The whole Roadrunner vs. Coyote thing is funny since roadrunners are small while turkeys would make a better meal for coyotes (who around here take out a lot of cats and dogs).

Listening to myself now... OMG I've got a serious case of the "uhhhhs"... terrible.   My other problem was trying to differentiate the banter between Rob and Chris from what was being addressed to me.

I'll do better next time...  ;)
