I just saw someone making an interesting comparison to when we sold Sutton to balance the books.

Chris Sutton was a British record transfer at the time (most paid by a British club).

The record British transfer is currently £89.7m. 

So comparing that with a £7m transfer fee today is silly.... £60m and we'll talk. 

Pritchard is our next legend and talisman though. He's the one player we've got where towards the end of the season you just thought... "What the hell is he doing in this league?".

Perfect successor to Wes... and lets hope we see the Pritchamonial in 2026. 

Pritchard is also the reason perception of Alex Neil's legacy here won't improve with time. We could argue that he signed Pritchard, but nobody will forget that he barely played him and he left us in 8th with possibly the leagues best player sitting on the bench for half a season.

Regardless of the perceived value, the point was about the players value to the team, and selling him to balance the books and perhaps weakening the team as a result.

The more I think about it the less I want us to part with Jacob Murphy. Obviously I like him however I'm not as big a fan as a lot seem to be (I was actively disappointed when people were suggesting that he should be our player of the season). However ultimately he got 8 goals and 8 assists in the league last season, which for a winger is a great return regardless of age. Plus he came through our academy and all that stuff.

Have to say, for all that Alex Neil did poorly last season, I think everyone was surprised when he stuck Jacob in the starting XI against Blackburn on the opening day last season having never started for us before. Yet it undoubtedly paid off. Obviously he then left him in the team far too long but that's another story.

I think the biggest thing, for me, is potential. His name was never even mentioned before last season, and only really in the terms of wondering if he would ever make it. To see how he progressed last summer, and seeing how he doesn't look out of place at all in some very esteemed company in the under 21's, says to me that we will actually do quite well to hang onto him. I see today its reported Newcastle are interested.

Difficult to know whether Jacob Murphy is at the peak of his abilities in which case he's basically a player with some major strengths but also some major weaknesses, with the latter rendering him not Premier League quality and therefore making a £7m price tag a fair one, or whether his incredible rise in stock over the past year can continue for another year under former Dortmund II coaches and we've basically got an England International in waiting.... but at £7m I'd rather we take a punt on it being the latter.

If Middlesbrough can spend £5.5m on a that eternal prospect Patrick Bamford after he'd not scored for 2 years.... then Murphy is worth double that.

To answer your question they are worth less than nothing. The same guy that wrote that has a part in Read Norwich and they are some of the biggest peddlers of nonsense I've ever come across.

Would appear that Newcastle are stirring the pot as well:

Any clubs interested in Jacob Murphy will need to pay £12m to sign the Norwich winger, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.

The England U21 international is currently with Aidy Boothroyd’s squad in Poland as they prepare for their semi-final against Germany on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports.

Newcastle, West Brom, Southampton, Swansea and Crystal Palace have been linked.

Imo if they all want him that much, best they start bidding starting at £12m.
