John Ruddy leaves Twitter

 I must say after the fairly recent stick he had from a number of fans, I was concerned Ruddy'd be a bit disillusioned with the club. With interest almost certainly out there, is his abandonment of Twitter a bad sign, or is it possibly just removing a distraction with a big task ahead?

I wouldn't be surprised if he was on his way, especially when looking at the decent Prem sides who are in need of a good goal keeper and so long as he goes for a reasonable fee I have to say I would wish him well.

Generally I think Norwich fans, and football fans in general, are our own worst enemies, yes we pay our money and so CAN say whatever we want but it doesn't always mean we should. The ironic cheering of Ruddy in the Reading game was a fine example, the stick that Redmond has received since he signed, the stick Ricky / Snoddy / Bradders etc got last year and still do this year. Fundamentally these are people who react in the same way as any of us, provide praise and make them feel wanted and they go the extra mile but continue to snipe from the side-lines and they will leave or give up. If it is a sign that Ruddy is looking at options away from Norwich then part of that has to be laid at the door of the fans; can anyone name a time he complained or showed anything other 'loyalty' to the club prior to that?

Now JR seems to me, to be a top bloke, with his Help For Heroes stuff etc, so perhaps he's just thought, he doesn't need it?

Why shouldn't he do it though? Its actually a great social tool, not just for attention seeking "stars" or abuse.

I'm be really angry if the club let any of our key players leave in the middle of the season, that's a defeatist attitude and I'll write our chances off the moment we sell somebody like Ruddy or Redmond. 

The summer is the time for business like that!

Get a good fee and I wouldn't be massively fussed if he was to go. He seems a good lad and has given us a fair few years of service, if he wants to leave to go back to the Prem that seems fair enough.

Keepers are often described as "good shot stoppers", which is football code for "flaps at crosses, can't kick straight, doesn't organise his defence, but does the minimum you'd expect of a keeper". Ruddy seems the opposite of that, top drawer at all that other stuff but has an alarming tendency to get beaten by tame shots, for a while (pre injury) it seems like he'd sorted that issue but we've seen a fair bit of it this season.

Rudd is now the same age Ruddy was when he joined us, and he isn't going to get any better sitting on the bench.

I think, over the last few games, he has looked back to his best actually.

I think the clubs resolve could be tested here, 7 or 8 million, and I doubt we'd see him for dust.

I wouldn't begrudge him a move to a Liverpool, or Spurs, or Everton. 

But I'd be frustrated if he swapped us for a club like QPR, Palace or Sunderland though, or any other club that we could be swapping places with in the next 18 months.

I don't begrudge him the choice of (not) doing it. I certainly don't think he is attention seeking, and I agree that it is a good social 'tool' for the younger fans, but if there are a few idiots, who think that is the best way to improve their own self esteem by abusing, then why bother? Life is too short to get embroiled with these d*ckheads, and worry about, that every time you are sat at home enjoying time with your family, and your Twitter comes up, that it is someone who has no real reason to be attacking/abusing you?

With Tim Howard (age 35) now being out for 6 weeks with a calf injury, then a bid from Everton, might be very tempting for the Club

I actually think that JR has become more vocal this season during games, something I have always felt was a gimme for a keeper. He is getting better, and I would not like to lose him. Perhaps I should have opened a Twitter account and told him so.............

I can sort of agree but not quite, Rudd is clearly at the point where he needs to play but I am not sure putting him behind our defence is the answer to his development. we need a leader at the back and someone with a voice and, without having seen him in action other than in Preston games, I am not sure Declan is there yet. Also, combine that with my comment above and a few bad performances would see him lambasted from the stands and what confidence he did have destroyed. 

Ruddy is the solution here but I really do not think we have done enough to keep him.

It is not always about the cub, if the player really wants to move and makes that known sometimes a club has to cash in - I don't think the blame here would rest wholly with the board. Also, a keeper is not the same as a Hoolahan type player, if they are disaffected or annoyed it can directly cost games, if a forward player is unhappy it doesn't have the same risks attached.

It is possible for you to make an account private so only those who follow you can see it. Although that is not what has happened with John Ruddy, he has actually deleted / deactivated his account.

I can still see his wifes account though, doesn't look like hers is deleted.

If correct, then not a good sign when considering its almost transfer time. We do though have two very adequate GK's if it does happen, so whilst it would be a blow, it is one we should soon get over providing we get enough cash for him.......when a decent club in the EPL comes calling.....
