A Director of Football. I'n not talking the board that has screwed up the transfers the last two seasons. But, a proper DoFin a clear cut role, who heads the scouting system who helps Neil to identify targets and ultimately scouts future managers for the betterment of the club. they are out there. Agree or Disagree?

Doubt we'll get one. I think Neil will be getting more power, not less.

That's ok if he was a bit more experienced. But the structure a mess (sorry if that sounds like a troll it isn't) Chief Executives shouldn't sign players they should set the budget. Then it's up to the DoF to find the players I agree the manager/head coach should have final on players. Much like the Chief Exec on the manager. It's just a definate point of accountability.

Agreed Baggie. Trouble is, with Holt and McAvoy as assistants I fear there would be resistance. Whether its ego or self preservation, most managers in Britain do not like having a DoF around the place. And the transfer marketplace is one area where we appear to be way behind everyone else possibly even at Championship level.

AN is an employee, just like the tea lady, but a very important one. If the board deems he needs help and he refuses it then I don't believe the consequences should be different from any other profession.

We have a 'Head of Recruitment' who joined the club in July 2015, who is part of the 'Football Executive Board'.

The previous one left in May 2015... possibly screwed us up having that change of personnel, or perhaps our model just doesn't work very well.

At one point last summer we had an Argentine striker fly in from Mallorca and he was sent straight home by Alex Neil, so who knows how things work at the club.

That's why I suggested the DoF. Ditch the Football Executive Board. Keep the stuff seperate Neil gets the final say on players so you avoid the Mallorca situation the DoF gives him list of players in requested positions who are in budget. He also works with the board to workout the future with the managers. It just makes things clearer and hopefully stablise you in the Prem.

To be honest I just think we have been very 'short termist' over the past couple of years, perhaps understandably, and that in hindsight - now that this hasn't work out - McNally has taken responsibility and walked. A gamble which hasn't paid off.

We only purchased Jarvis to free up a loan spot, Bamford didn't work out either.

The Naismith transfer epitomizes this short termism, paying £8.5m or whatever it was on a 29 year old, because we thought he could help keep us up this season. Now that we are relegated we can see quite clearly that the transfer fee could have bought us three top Championship players.

That's my view anyway.

It's a very intelligent point of view. Thing is they say a week is a long time in football. It seems 24 hours is now too, with, Dr Tony Xia's RonCon group buying Villa they hve gone from a joke to minted. I can see him legally challenging FFP. Plus Mike Ashley's been known to spend. Of the 3 relegated clubs you're at an immediate dis-advantage now, you can't afford to mess up like the examples given this time or sadly it could be a long while before you're back

I think its going to take a lot more than instant wealth to fix Villa.... they seem to have an entire squad of wasters, going to take time to sort out that shambles irrespective of whether they now have a big pot of money.

Also, Tony Fernandes has done a good job of showing that simply throwing money at a club isn't a guarantee of success, you also need to surround yourself with people who understand the business, with your best interests at heart.

For all we know this new Villa owner may be one of those 5 managers a season types, then get bored and forget that they own a football club like the Venky's.

Would be interesting to know whether Lerner was shrewd enough to put relegation wage drop clauses in Villa contracts. The new owner is apparently prepared to inject £50m into Villa, which on the face of it appears to be a massive war chest.

But when the club makes signings like Michah Richards on a 4 year deal at £50k a week.... that investment may not go as far as people think.

No amount of investment is going to make Scott Sinclair, Gabby Agbonlahor and Charles N'Zogbia give a sh*t about their football careers, so I doubt I'd put money on them going up this season to be honest.

Newcastle will be favourites though, actually pretty well run by Mike Ashley in terms of finances and they are by far the strongest of the teams relegated in terms of quality of players, I think they will walk it.

Newcastle and Villa will only be favourites, and with the bookies, if they ditch the prima donnas and bring players at top Championship level. And that may well be where we have a slight advantage, at the moment. I don't think we have any slackers. I think they are an honest bunch who just aren't good enough for the Prem, as a whole. And despite the outcry, I doubt if there will be wholesale sackings at NCFC. But I'm sure new blood will arrive pretty early in the summer and I'm certain we need to be buying with next season only in mind. If we go back up then improve the squad to Prem standard then.

I think the gap has widened between the Prem and the rest bust the gap is less between the other three divisions, although MK Dons make me a liar. But watching Walsall and Barnsley in particular, I was more than impressed with their style of play and attempts to play progressive attacking football. And I'm sure there are still some bargains to be had if the club looks into the lower divisions.
