I would also add I'm yet to see anything from the popular Pinto and Dijks to say they are better defenders.
Well I have been saying for years that Ryben never plays like he really means it. Glad Webber has sussed that out too.Shocked that Ryan Bennett decided not to train, think that says quite a lot about his character. Understand more with those who clearly didn't have a chance of getting on the pitch. But Ryan Bennett is basically turning down the chance to pull on the shirt for one last time, it the process just completely justifies the clubs decision to release him and then shows himself up to be one of those who fits into Webber's "don't care enough" category.
Ironically I think I remember defending him in a debate with you.Well I have been saying for years that Ryben never plays like he really means it. Glad Webber has sussed that out too.
Pretty sure we had that with Alex Neil too ;-)Ironically I think I remember defending him in a debate with you.
Then he got a run in the team...
Maybe next time I think I disagree with you i'll keep quiet for a couple of months in case you end up with a f*cking hattrick.Pretty sure we had that with Alex Neil too ;-)
Nah.I'm not going to pretend I was ever Whittaker's biggest fan. I think he was good the first year he was here, particularly during the unbeaten run we went on that season. He was indifferent the next, and since then, with the exception of Alex Neil's first few months here when we got promoted he's been quite frankly terrible
Like Irvine said though, its also the way the team is defending, if you have full backs that bomb forward and overlap then you need to make sure another player is covering for them. This is why I think we've missed a three lungs like player at the base of the midfield, when Gary O'Neil left we could really have done with bringing in a younger version.I would also add I'm yet to see anything from the popular Pinto and Dijks to say they are better defenders.
Pretty sure it was me.I saw somebody on here say that Gary O'Neil was over rated the other day, can't remember who. I disagree with that actually, the defensive midfielder is always a bit of an unsung hero who does all the unfashionable donkey work but they are critical to the team.... its nice to see one get some acknowledgement for once.
Exactly that about the balance of the team being wrong.I think what we are highlighting here is the balance of the team has been wrong for a long time now. Whittaker got pelters for basically doing exactly the same as Pinto does, but he's aesthetically pleasing and posts a lot on social media. Russel Martin was more of an orthodox RB but never really bombed on like Whitts did. But its a good point about the DM though, the covering back really hasn't been there, which is essential when playing the way we do.
But its not just the DM's job though, and I think we have suffered with a few players who naturally don't have defending as a part of their game, Murphys, Redmond etc. And the fact we can look so great with the ball when we're going forward, then look like a train crash when we lose it pretty much proves the theory. Its odd, I don't know if its down to coaching, or the basic putting together of the team, or having to make the best of what players you have. It wasn't just Alex Neil either, it was evident under Hughton too. Makes me wonder if we over obsess with trying to play "nice" football.
