Pink'un getting a new forum...

I like this forum and will be saying. Never been on the Pink un forum to post as the lack of tolerance of views did not appeal to me. Not 606 I has and still is a good site (and I still use it), where on the whole tolerance has been much better and there has been decent debate. I did notice on both sites that the Hughton era really increased the on fighting on both sites.

This site has lots more modern aspects that are good and if there was one area that could be looked at would be getting opposition fans to get involved with banter, but that can sometimes go a bit overboard. Perhaps just a page for Binner fans?

Well we did have an 'Away Fans' forum but because Google has yet to show us any real love no away fans showed up, the first one turned up the other day - the Grimsby fan with his petition, so maybe we'll start seeing a few more through the door.

This site and the PinkUn obvious have very different MOs - that is a commerical site and I'm sure they use the number of hits they get to generate some great ad revenue (when I say 'great' that is a relative term). Also the PinkUn have used the message board as a form of crowd sourcing research - with many stories being posted by users ending up on the main site and the paper.

Good points regarding social media also, I would argue that a message board is a dying medium with most football fan sites seeing a reduction in numbers over the past few years, the PinkUn certainly hasn't kept up in that regard but I guess they felt there was never any real need to make improvements as they were still obtaining a massive amount of hits. I think Sports Desk Pete once said they had over a million views in period over a few hours in the real dark days of relegation to League One etc.

It wouldn't surprise me about the difference in post numbers, the PinkUn has seen a lull recently but that is because all forums are less busy when times are good (it's human nature to vent and moan rather than celebrate).

The real test of this site will come when things turn bad for Norwich City on the picth.

As has been touched on, Pinkun is a news site so there is an outlet for official articles (ie confirmation when a signing has been made). This forum will always suffer in that anything posted on here is only ever gossip

And the real test for the Pink'un will be whether they are genuinely going to invest resources into ongoing long term moderation, or whether the recent moderation is a token effort.

There was only ever single figures worth of posters worth listening to there and most of them have arrived here already.

There are some really good posters on there. However this site for me is the one that I enjoy,feel a part of and feel quite happy to log on to..I do read the news there and do enjoy the views of the rationable posters....Keep up the good work all, and for sure there will be more and more posters joining...Well done, but don't forget to keep your sharp,pointy sticks handy

Loving the site and thanks for the great work you have done CanaryBoy top marks, right arse licking out of the way  Only reason i go over to the pinkun is to check out the homepage, don't even bother with the forums it is like a kiddies playground over there with all the name calling etc. As for this site going that way as it expands, i'm sure it won't with good mods and admin something else the pinkun didn't have

The pinkun forum got ridiculous years ago, and you literally had to cut through swathes of idiocy to get to any decent debate. I left there for about two years after the whole "Worthy in / out" debate.There are still good posters on there, and I will likely drop in, but this place is vastly superior.

And, as previously said, the true test will be their commitment to moderation. It will be interesting to see how many people are left once they cull the idiots, multiple accounts and trolls!

Very, very amusing that they are panic upgrading though, after all these years of people going on and on about the forum basic functionality!

I watched the PinkUn board for years (8 or 9) and amassed a grand total of about 10 posts. I've done loads more than that since I joined here.

The difference is that it's a safer environment to post, the moderation is quick and effective, people have recognised quickly that there is an expectation of good behaviour on here, disagreements are handled without personal attacks, and the smaller number of posters makes it feel more like a community.

I still check out the PinkUn for Ricardo's match reports and to see what Posters like Nutty and Purple are saying but not interested in posting there. This is my home now.

SEO is not my area of expertise but afaik the two main ways it'll get further up the ranks is by people clicking the result after searching "Norwich forum" etc, and by links to here appearing elsewhere on the internet surrounded by text making clear that it is Norwich City related.

Taking a quick look at search results atm for "Norwich City Forum" and this site doesn't even appear in the first 10 pages. For the second method I dunno if there are any online lists / catalogues of football forums but if there are it wouldn't hurt to add a link to them.

The Pink'un are just upgrading their forum, which was inevitable really, and something which I actually consider positive. 

I created this forum so that Norwich fans had at least one decent forum, and so I can't complain if they end up with two. Contrary to what the Pink'un people probably want to believe, I didn't create it to upset or damage them. 

I do find it amusing how they have worked themselves up into such a panic though, over something I knocked together and launched in two days with perhaps £100 to £150 (granted, I've put in some serious hours since).  

Leicester City are a similar size to us, they have two very big forums:

• Foxestalk.co.uk
• Talkingballs.co.uk

And I know from just browsing them that plenty of posters are present on both. So I'd expect us to be able to coexist just fine. 

The only conclusion that I can draw from the Pink'uns reaction to this forum over the past 34 days (including my 116 year forum ban, removing signatures to prevent their members sharing the link, being blocked by their journalists on twitter) is that they shat themselves, probably unnecessarily. 

They should be grateful that I launched the forum when I did, because a week or so after (and I've been meaning to get in touch with this fella again on Skype, and he is on the member list here at NorwichTalk.com), the webmaster of Talkchelsea.net got in touch with me and told me that: 1) he found my twitter account because he was looking into creating a Norwich forum, and 2) He actually lives in Norwich, and 3) Sometimes goes to Norwich games. 

He may well still be planning that, who knows!

Can I just say though you've done a great job on this site. It's layout very nicely and I certainly have no plans on leaving it. And at the moment at least there don't seem to be any of the intolerant, self-righteous morons that there were on Pink Un. Good work CanaryBoy
