Picking up on the point above re lack of posters, it has been noted, over the years, that other forums are always busier when people have something to moan about, and people seem a bit lost if its all going well lol.

LOL, yeah that too. Think the home fixture + lack of stream is part of it though, I was online for the match but didn't feel qualified to contribute much having had to 'watch it on the radio', sure others felt the same.

Happy with the money for him, but feel he could've joined a better club than QPR. I'm glad this was announced this week after a win, much easier to swallow!

I've been contributing at all the wrong times at the moment due to working evenings all week. End up spamming the forum all morning and then reading everyone elses posts at about 11 at night

I have been expecting him to leave, but would expect more for him. The only reason we got him cheap if I remember correctly was his potentially dodgy knee. If it hadn't been for that he would have cost a lot more and gone to a higher placed club I reckon.

As for last season, he started like a machine and faded, but the whole team did as a result of the tactics and set-up. He has lots of quality. Needs to be managed properly though.

Worth every bit of £10M+ in my opinion, but would rather he stayed.

It'd make sense to at least keep him for Tuesday... Even better keep him for the scum match and better still keep him for the season!

Skijumptoes, nothing has been announced yet... You can still bet on the deal too which never happens if a deal is that imminent unless it's completely under the radar. Expect more to this one...

Important to bear in mind that this wouldn't be the first time that misinformation has been given to the press to try and unsettle a player.

I distinctly remember somebody on the Pinkun comments on a story saying something along the lines that Fer had said something in the Dutch press that he didn't fancy going to a lower end team and wanted to get back to enjoying his football after a tough season. Don't suppose that sounds vaguely familiar to anybody and they can point me to the original comment on there?

Beyond that though, reasons why I think this could be merely mischief.

  • Fer has 3 years on his contract and £8m doesn't sound enough when he's just done a really good, albeit short job at the world cup as well
  • Fer has shown no signs of restlessness. He recently got married at Norwich Cathedral when he could have got married anywhere. Not something I would expect of somebody with itchy feet. Also positive statements on Twitter like 'Stop being afraid of what could go Wrong and start being positive about what could go Right...'
  • Applauding the fans could just as easily have been his way of trying to reassure fans that he was with them amid all the speculation
  • Adams has made it crystal clear that he doesn't want Fer sold. "Who in their right mind would open the door for him to go?" were his words, which is almost a pre-emptive criticism of making an agreement.
  • Bowkett was explicit that Adams had been told that if Adams wanted to keep the whole squad then the club was financially stable enough to do just that. Granted Snodgrass went, but he clearly wanted to move back to the Premier League immediately and only had a year left on his contract. Pilks was clearly not big in Adams' thoughts. Leroy is a different case entirely though and agreeing a fee over the manager's head would be very damaging to both Adams' credibility by being so obviously overruled, but also to the board's credibility for reneging on a very explicit statement to support Adams if he wanted to keep players.
I guess we'll know soon enough though!

Had one PL game last season where he controlled the midfield and that was Soithampton at home. Can't say he done anything much of note for the other matches so take the £8 million and reinvest it in players that want to be here. We fell down the trap of buying over rated foreign players that lacked the hunger and fight that was needed. Both Dutch boys were a massive failure for me.

There is absolutely no proof that either of them lacked "hunger" or "fight". Just another lazy cliche that foreign players aren't as up for it as English players.

£8m is nowhere near enough. Didn't QPR just sign Mutch for £6m? McNally somehow managed to get over £7.25m for Snodgrass, and he only had a year left on his deal.

Fer would be a monster in the Championship and, as others have mentioned, he is a complete midfielder. If we got promoted this year and wanted to sign another player of Fer's calibre we'd probably have to pay more than £8m. I wouldn't be surprised if he went, although I really hope he doesn't, but he is worth at least eight figures.

Agree, I think £8m is a bit low.

£10m plus add-ons would be more like it.

Leroy Fer, a decent but not world class midfielder, played a bit part in a world cup when the players ahead of him  were ruled out due to injury. His current club NCFC, relegated last season ,have not yet confirmed that he is on his way out, in fact his comeback after the summer layoff was a 20 min run out with City already 3 nil up. If a move was iminent , then the management was either foolhardy or very brave to risk injury, thereby putting any potential deal in jeopardy.

Fer is attracting the interest of Harry Rednapp, whose scattergun approach to transfer dealings and willingness to try unsettling players through the press/media is well known.

I hope i am wrong but i feel this is all speculation, it seems particularly raw to us because he is our player.after all, the headline 'Harry after 'player X' would not normally cause me to read the text under the headline...thats how much stock i put in 'Arrys press releases.

I'm not saying they havent made an offer, or that they wont come back with an improved one, but for now i'll chill on it, see what happens, we did win yesterday after all.

Still got a horrible niggle in the back of my mind that LVG at MU will try for him as a squad player.

I think 8 million is not too bad and do also see this perhaps starting moves to get a couple in for us before the window shuts.A centre back and another striker maybe.

You saw yesterday the first choice midfield for me, with perhaps Howson being added to that, It has been reasonably clear that playing Hoolahan in the no. 10 role means they are expecting Fer to go. If Tettey went, they will slot O Neil in that slot although I not sure Tettey will go.

If Leroy hasn't asked for the move, then selling him shows a complete lack of ambition and commitment by our board in my opinion. He's not a 'World Class' midfielder, but he is our best midfielder and I would argue the best midfielder in the Championship. If we are committed to winning and getting back to the Premier League, we should be keeping him, apart from if we received a stupid bid, which in my opinion is £15+ million. He doesn't always bust a gut to get back into defensive positions, which is why he should be playing in an advanced midfield role. His ability on the ball is superb, he combines strength, power and composure and in this league, that will mean a boat load of assists and I guarantee a fair few goals as well. If you want Fer to be running like a headless chicken, then you're not going to rate him because he's a more cultured midfielder who relies on positioning more than anything. He's the best midfielder we've had in my lifetime that's for sure, keeping him would show a lot of commitment to me.

If you say so. I saw very little hunger or fight from Fer in midfield last season. I saw a lot of strolling around and losing his man when attempting to track back. Can't remember a single crunching challenge that went in, nothing of note going forwards springs to mind either, didnt chip in with many goals or assists, Just very, very average and underwhelming. Still would have liked to keep him though because there is potential there.

Was I the only one wondering about the amount of extravagant stepovers and showboats from him in the brief time he was on yesterday?

Felt took me a bit like 'I'm a World Cup footballer and you are all not'!!

He did that last year, just the way he plays. He didn't lose the ball as a result of them, so I didn't really mind.
