Rumours and speculation

There are rumours that Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will be given a chance to earn a new contract and we see him as more of a part of the first team picture this year. No idea how much truth is in this, but if so, thoughts?

I'd be more than happy to give RVW a chance, lets face it no matter how disappointing his last couple of years have been, he's a better striker than most that you'll find in the championship

yep, no question, he had a awful first year playing in hughtons anti football campaign, of keep the ball in our half and never try to score any goals approach to management, we really need to see what he can do in an attacking side like the one we had under Neil in the championship last time round, I'm more than confident he can do more than an adequate job for us, now whether there's any truth to this about him being given another chance remains to be seen, chances are I'll look on the internet tomorrow and he'd of been sold

It'd be interesting to see him in an Alex Neil team. He's clearly a decent striker, but was over-hyped by the fact he was our record signing (all the 'Be afraid of the Big Bad Wolf' sh*te didn't help) and also suffered from Hughton's tactics. Whilst he's a decent striker though he obviously wasn't good enough to play up front by himself in a Premier League side, particularly one that created very few chances per game. If we could boost his confidence then in the Championship he could be a decent asset, however it's all if's and but's.

I'm not at all opposed to giving him an opportunity, however I wouldn't want us to not bring in a new striker with the purpose of giving Ricky a chance, it's too much of a risk to place our trust in him to score goals, even at this level.

Also, on Aaron Tshibola, who are supposedly interested in signing from Reading, Aston Villa have apparently had a £5m bid accepted. That would be a lot for us to pay for a centre midfielder who would likely be behind at least Howson and Tettey in the pecking order, so think that could end our interest.

I would really judge strikers by Jerome's performance for us at Wembley.

Has RVW got that in his locker? Nah.

Always a good thing to give Ricky an incentive to play well pre season while loan deals are being lined up. ?

Give him Youth/B team games for fitness. His agent is obviously very talented, get rid again. Hopefully sale but that's doubtful.

Utter delusion if anybody really thinks he deserves another chance.

we are willing to listen to others for Ruddy, Bassong, Mulumbu, RVW and Turner

Ruddy is obviously the most surprising of these as he's been our no 1 for years now, Bassong and Mulumbu im not surprised about, RVW i guess means the redemption rumours are untrue, and Turner is a bit surprising as he just had his contract extended, guess they did that so they could get a fee for him rather than let him leave for free

also Dorrans has just signed a 3 year extension

Didn't Turner's contract trigger with the promotion or something?

Still think that's half *bleep* half a reasonable guess mind.

Looks like an entertainer, obviously more raw than even Redmond but a lot of potential in those boots.

Both Josh and Jacob Murphy had good seasons last time out and Jarvis will be reliable, along with right back let's hope this is our winger situation sorted out for the season.

Still feels a bit light to me. Jarvis is good on his day but he's very inconsistent and he picks up injuries. As for the Murphy boys, are either of them as good as Redmond was 2 seasons ago? Probably not.

It's a risk I would take. Jarvis will be dropping down a level so should be more effective. Murphy boys are only going to get better with experience, if we sign a more experienced player it essentially ends one or both of their chances here. Whilst not a natural winger I don't mind the idea of Vadis playing from one of the wings. A decent plan b.

I think we need to spend the money elsewhere. Strikers, a central defender and then replacements for Olsson (probably) and anyone else that goes.

Probably will sign another one though.

Well yeah but you can say any player will get better with experience.

Sort of. But all mediocre senior players would have once been regarded as good young prospects.

I mean the Murphy lads are decent, they have something about them. But so did Chris Martin. Infact Martin probably looked more obviously likely to make the grade and even then his level never really looked better than Champs.

To be fair, I'd kill to have Chris Martin play for us at the moment.
