He had to go.

I'm glad that he has done the decent thing and offered his resignation. I'm glad that the club has made arrangements to keep him at the club, he's a good coach and a great asset to our youth system. 

But he hasn't done the business in the hot seat.

Finding the right manager always so difficult so dont envy mcnally the next choice - suspect it will be phelan but if so dont expect him to be confirmed before the weekend.   Glad that we will find something lower profile for adams but also glad he is no longer with the first team,  he simply never convinced.

Personally I would be looking for a lambert-esque fresh start;   clear out all associated with the last two performances.   And that may include the players.   two many croft like heart but no quality pots player  for us to truly succeed  - a manager who can get howsons  ability to drive us to promotion.

It is important that the club move very quickly to appoint a permanent manager, whether that is Phelan or not. This is a transfer window, no players want to sign a 3 year deal for a caretaker / interim manager, apart from the stupid ones who just see the pound signs next to the word 'salary'.

Just picked up the news and I am both surprised and not at the same time.

I am with CanaryBoy in the results were not good enough, but worse than that was the lack of tactical nous. Saturday was the turning point/final straw for me because I just could not see how that line up could be effective.

I also posted (on the other site) on Saturday that the board had a decision to make as to whether Neil was the right person to lay the foundations for future success. But surprised that the discussion and decision has come so quickly. I doubt that he offered his resignation as such, but at least it has been spun that way so that dignity can be maintained.

Very pleased that they will find him a role at the club. Not really his fault that he ended up out of his depth, the board took him down that path following the WBA game. Decent guy, bleeds green and yellow blood and delivered a magnificent achievement with the Youth Cup success and hopefully that will not be tarnished.

I still find it amazing that so many people think that it's all about the manager. Would Ferguson or Mourinho been great managers had they managed Stoke or WBA? I very much doubt it.

Sorry YF - cent agree with you there. Mourinho won the champions league with Porto and ferguson won the European cup winners cup (back when it was still a proper trophy!) with Aberdeen of all teams!

Some managers are just, well, special. And those two are.
