Yes. Unfortunately. And even if he could get back to his best he has never been great with the ball at his feet.

I hope this means the standard of player coming out of Scotland is improving with the current crop because they've been dogshit for 20 years haha.

The success of Wales in recent years shows that it can change though and you get good decades in these smaller countries (see Croatia).

A few rumblings of Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann coming in on loan. He was linked earlier in the window but everyone dismissed it a bit as too unrealistic seeing as he's been one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga over the last few years, and played regularly in the Champions League/Europa League in that time. Didn't have the best season last year getting injured and losing his place as Schalke had a below average campaign, but no doubting he's still a superb goalkeeper and seeing as Farke loves putting players careers back on the right track this would be a brilliant signing.

Only thing is with him being 30 years old and coming in on loan means if he did sign he would be looking to play every week. While we definitely need competition to Krul it would be harsh for him to lose his place without even touching a ball at Premier League level for us, but if we give Krul the nod at the start of the season then it's gonna leave Fahrmann very unhappy. A difficult one. A younger goalkeeper on a permanent deal probably makes more sense long term and in terms of giving Krul competition, but Fahrmann would probably be a coup, it was only a year or two ago he was linked with Liverpool.

I mean, it may not even happen so no reason to get too carried away yet!

Also, our under 23s team is starting to look unreal! Belgium under 21 international Rocky Bushiri signed today, someone who played 34 games as an 18 year old in the Belgian Premier League last season, also joined by another Belgian youth international Rob Nizet earlier this week who plays left back. Daniel Adshead who played regularly in League 1 for Rochdale last season as a 17 year old, and was wanted by Manchester United. Highly rated Scotland u19s goalkeeper Archie Mair from Aberdeen, and now we're set to add Charlie Gilmour, a defensive midfielder who has just been released by Arsenal despite being named on the Golden Boy shortlist last season (in other words he's one of the top 100 young players in the world),and Aiden Fitzpatrick, someone who we've obviously been after for a while, who we've had a 350k bid accepted for. That's not even including all the talented youth players we have, like Idah, Power etc. Exciting times to say the least.

Fahrmann is supposed to be pretty damn good, had injuries as you say. If he's fit preseason, I'd start him instead of Krul, no question about it.

Adam Idah getting his chance is a huge vote of confidence in our youth system and gives a clear signal that we are genuinely using it as a conduit towards the first team. For an example of why a player may choose us over another club, see Chelsea.
