I can't get too excited about all these new contracts because we don't know what sort of release clauses we've had to stick in them.
E.g. relegation release clause, or general minimum fee release clause.
In principle its fantastic that Buendia has signed a 5 year contract, but not if the release clause is £15m.
Although it is nice to see that all these players appear to be fully bought into the project at least in the short term (it at least means they are here for this season, gives us a fighting chance).
I'm guessing also that this is one of the reasons we've not got a pot to piss in this season, players getting additional pay rises above and beyond their promotion wage increases.
Just hope there is enough in the pot for a couple more, we need a DM and a RB at least, and ideally one more attacking midfield option even if its another loan.

I think it is just good business really. You should never get any of your top players get into their last year of their contract, I don't think anyone is under any illusion that it buys us loyalty. It also, very much, theoretically, sets our budget for the next few years. We won't be getting promoted again so there will be no need to dish out payrises, a bit like taking a fixed rate mortgage!
The club are well of the value of Emi, I talked to someone, before Emi was flying, and they said that he was 100% the next Norwich City player that would leave on a Maddison type fee. God knows how we managed to get him at all, but we did kind of buy him on the never never as I believe we had to pay out a few million as a clause when we got promoted.
It just all smacks of a very definite, neat and tidy, long term plan, and coupled with some of the quality that is coming into the U23 team, it fills me with a lot of confidence about how things are being run at our club.

Totally agree with that. Contracts are not what they used to be what with all the potential clauses. Personally I'm just thankful that all our star players seem to be happy enough to stay with us for the time being at least. With the U23 signings as well, I'm optimistic for the club in the long term. Optimism not being my strongest point normally!

Listened to an interview with our head of recruitment? a few weeks ago who talked about Emi.
Apparently he was overweight and unfit but they could see potential. We had been watching him for a while, as we do with all our incoming apparently.

I should imagine they will announce Vrancic in the next few days, they seem to be drip feeding us the good news! He is 30 years old, maybe they are not offering him as long as a contract as he may like?

Yeah may be that due to age but he was a sort of headline signing, that is to say the Vrancic we've ended up seeing is the one we thought we were signing so it may be that he was on a very healthy wage to begin with and the percentage we are prepared to up that may not be as impressive as some of the younger ones have seen.
In fairness in this case the length thing may be in the other direction, he may just want an extra year and we want two extra... because there were noises about him wanting a return to Germany a year ago!
