I rate Godfrey a lot, I watched him in pre season and was a bit disappointed he went out on loan. Not sure if Tettey's new contract will have maybe put his nose out of joint a bit though.

Thompson and Godfrey would count, and both be involved I would hope. Remi Mathews is going to, at least, make the bench. Theres a promising youngster (right back) who has just signed a pro contract. Jamal Lewis. I don't think we are too far off, though struggling to think of too many more, shame Carlton Morris got injured.

If we're struggling to find 7 homegrown players from a squad of 32, then what does that say about having to squeeze the rest of that squad into 11 spaces.

Doesn't sound that believable to me. Hasn't played above L1 and arguably isn't going to get into our team when everyone is fit.

He'll end up playing at right back after we sell Pinto and then attempt to replace with somebody who turns out to be of James Husband calibre.

I think if we turned round now and sold Ben Godfrey for £3m I'd be completely and utterly lost when it comes to trying to work out what Webber is trying to achieve, I'm already pretty confused to be honest.

Especially if we were to sell Godfrey and then do something silly like spend that money on Harrison Reed, who whilst decent at right back I thought was pretty poor as a defensive midfielder... lack presence and it was as clear as anything that we were far better with a Trybull-Tettey partnership than any two which contained Reed.

That would be panic stations for me. I can understand selling Maddison because we need to balance the books, I can understand selling Murphy because he's not exactly the perfect wide player for our system and has some glaring weaknesses, I can understand selling Watkins because he's rubbish.

I could understand selling Pinto and Klose, because they have one year left on their deals. I could understand selling Oliviera because he's a twat. And I'm happy to assume that Glenn Middleton developed a big ego and thought he'd already made it.

But selling Godfrey for a few million? That would leave me completely stumped. He's just excelled at the top end of League 1, despite only being 20.5 years old. We were told it would cost £2.5m for Sam Morsy who has played mostly at League One level and only a handful of games in the Championship.

Godfrey should be the planned Tettey successor?

Do Scottish players count as homegrown or is it literally just England? Obviously Hanley and McLean count if that's the case. Them, plus Godfrey, Lewis, Matthews and a new (English) Goalkeeper like Henderson or Ward would take it to 6 out of 7 that you would imagine will definitely be in our match day squad each week, plus maybe Raggett.

To be fair it's hard to work out exactly how much we'll have to spend. We're obviously getting a lot of money in with £11m for Murphy, £20m+ for Maddison, plus Watkins and the hopeful sales of 5/6 others, but how much of that goes towards our transfer budget I'm not sure. If we have enough though I'd definitely like us to pay the £4m asking price for Jack Marriott. 27 league goals for Peterborough last season and 33 in all competitions is an unreal record. Hopefully the sale of Oliveira could pay for him at least.

They need to have come through at an English club (or Cardiff / Swansea / Newport presumably). Think its at least 3 years before 21st birthday.

Fabregas is actually considered homegrown!

Maddison and Marriott are being linked with Derby County I believe, and being English its inevitable they'd choose Lampard if they can meet the asking price. Should have moved earlier for Maddison, apparently he has a £2.5m release clause.

£25m is good fee. Probably in installments or has add-ons or whatever but even so can't complain at that price (the highest fee ever paid for a player who's spent the last year playing in the Championship).

Saw someone suggest that maybe we could try and get Harvey Barnes on loan as part of the deal, seeing as we're buying from Leicester anyway. Did well in this league during half a season on loan at Barnsley last year, and plays in the same position as Maddison.

Have seen a few people on Twitter complaining a bit that we won't get all the money up front, not that that is how it works anyway! But knowing the money is coming gives us the ability to plan our budget for the next few years. Word on the street is that we should hopefully see a few coming in soon. I am not thinking there is anything in the Ben Godfrey rumours.
